On May 26, students in Grades 3/4, 4 and 4/5 from across the region participated in the 2016 Quinte Children's Water Festival held at the Batawa Ski Hill. Students took part in nearly 35 activity centres combining interactive, hands-on learning opportunities for students to 'soak up' knowledge on water conservation and protection, water health and safety, water science and technology and water and society. At one centre students learned how water travels through the soil. At another, they could also experience the difference between taking a shower with a water efficient shower head and one without. They could clearly see that the student standing under the non-efficient shower head was much wetter than the student using the water efficient shower head for the same amount of time. And at 11:30 everyone gathered in a large circle and took part in the Water Blessing ceremony. Through all these activities students were encouraged to become water stewards in their homes, classroom and community.
