Nicholson Catholic College (NCC) Senior Boys Basketball team took home gold following their win against Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute (KCVI) and Intermediate School of Peterborough at OFSAA on March 6 in Welland, Ontario.
The Nicholson Catholic College Senior Boys Basketball team are OFSAA 'A' Champions.
The final score was 62-47 for NCC who defeated the fifth, first and second seeded teams to capture the gold medal. “NCC's team defense was the difference in all of our wins”, said IB Co-ordinator and assistant coach Justin Walsh.
NCC had played KCVI back in February at COSSA, in a closely scored game where Kenner took home the championship title, winning 64-61.
NCC scored 25-7 in the overall season and 12-0 in league play and play-offs. “Our team is very 'together'. All the players supported each other throughout the season”, said Walsh who attributes the addition of two new players and strong defense to their success. “Our smothering defense wore teams down which was key to us winning 5 games in the 3 days to capture the OFSAA 'A' Boys Basketball Championship title”, he said.
