The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is pleased to share the new school crest for St. Geneviève Catholic School/École catholique Sainte-Geneviève.

In December 2023, Principal Laurie Day met with students who will be attending the new school in Kingston's West end, to gather input about what the new crest should look like.

Various designs were created by graphic artists and put to the school community for rating and feedback in January 2024. This feedback was used to refine the designs and the crest was selected.

“I am blessed to be able to work with students and families to ensure the logo is reflective of what they want to see in their school community," said Principal Day.

The colours of navy blue and gold represent wisdom, generosity and compassion, and the images in the crest represent academics (the book), our Catholicity (through the cross), unity (through the circular shape) and St. Geneviève, who was known as 'the light of Paris' (through the flame). “It is hoped that this new Catholic school will be a light within our community".

On November 22, 2024 St. Geneviève Catholic School/École catholique Sainte-Geneviève was selected as the name of the new school, following consultations and a voting process with students, staff, and community members.

“I look forward to continuing to work with our students, families, and community members as we build the St. Geneviève Catholic School community," said Principal Day.

St. Geneviève Catholic School/École catholique Sainte-Geneviève will provide ALCDSB students with outstanding opportunities for learning in both French and English. The construction of the dual track school is part of the province's investment program to support students with better learning spaces.

Highlights of this school include:

• 481 elementary student spaces.
• 4 new childcare rooms, providing 73 new licensed childcare spaces.
• 3 new EarlyON Child and Family Centre rooms.

This school will open in September 2024.
