The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce that the name of our new Catholic elementary school in Kingston will be St. Geneviève Catholic School/École catholique Sainte-Geneviève.

This Kindergarten to Grade 8 school is in Kingston's west-end Woodhaven subdivision and will be a dual track school, meaning the school offers both French Immersion and English learning.

The focus of the naming process was to have student and family voice as the leading influence. Laurie Day, who will be the principal of St. Geneviève Catholic School met with students in three school communities to gather their input.

In addition, a naming committee was created, which included students, families, staff and community members.  A larger list of names was narrowed down to three names by the naming committee. Our community voted again and St. Geneviève Catholic School was selected.

“The opening of St. Geneviève Catholic School will create an exciting and innovative faith-based learning community.  The school truly represents the commitment of all partners in Catholic education to create schools that will prepare our students for their vibrant futures," said Darcey French, Superintendent of Education.

“It was important for me that the school name was generated from, and selected by, the school community. I love that the name, St. Geneviève, is representative of the dual-track nature of the school," said Laurie Day, Principal of St. Geneviève Catholic School.

St. Geneviève Catholic School/École catholique Sainte-Geneviève will provide ALCDSB students with outstanding opportunities for learning in both French and English. The construction of the dual track school is part of the province's investment program to support students with better learning spaces.

Highlights of this school include:

  • 481 elementary student spaces.
  • 4 new childcare rooms, providing 73 new licensed childcare spaces.
  • 3 new EarlyON Child and Family Centre rooms.

This school will open in September 2024.
