Sector profile
The Sports sector offers a range of careers in performance, training and treatment, recreation and support, and business and media entertainment. While many people enjoy playing or watching sports, they do not often realize the endless career opportunities that are affiliated with sports, beyond competing.
Some future career paths
For Sports majors, possible career paths include these occupation groupings:

Apprenticeship – conference and event planner.

College – announcer or other broadcaster; broadcast technician; facility operation and maintenance manager; film or video camera operator; other technical and coordinating occupation in motion pictures, broadcasting, or the performing arts; photographer; photographic or film processor; recreation, sports, or fitness program or service director.

University – author or writer; dietitian or nutritionist; journalist; other professional occupation in therapy and assessment; producer, director, choreographer, or related occupation; occupation in advertising, marketing, or public relations; psychologist; recreation, sports and fitness policy researcher, consultant, or program officer; secondary school teacher.

Entry level workplace – athlete; coach; operator or attendant in amusement, recreation, and sport; outdoor sport and recreational guide; program leaders or instructor in recreation, sport, or fitness; retail and wholesale trade manager; sports official or referee.

Program requirements
In the Sports major, students will take 9 credits in grade 11 and 12:

4 major credits that provide sector-focused knowledge and skills
-
1 English credit (Grade 12)

1 Math credit (Grade 11)
-
1 Business Studies, Science or Social Science credit (Grade 11 or 12)

2 Co-operative Education credits to apply, refine, and extend your sector knowledge and skills
Additionally, students will have opportunities for

Experiential learning, career exploration and reach-ahead activities in Sports

Certifications and training programs, including:

3 compulsory certifications: Standard First Aid, CPR Level C with AED, and WHMIS (generic)

3 additional certifications or training programs
-
A sector-partnered contextualized learning experience, such as training in Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship
