Compliance Audit Committees are required under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (MEA) to consider applications from eligible electors requesting audits of candidates, contributors, and registered third party campaign finances in relation to the 2022 Municipal Election, and any by-elections during the 2022-2026 term. Committees may be required to appoint auditors and determine if legal proceedings are required as a result of the auditors’ reports or reports from the clerk of the municipality. The powers and functions of the Committee are set out in Section 88 of the MEA and are in place to ensure that the provisions pertaining to campaign finances have not been contravened and to follow the necessary steps to ensure compliance.

  • proven analytical and decision-making skills;
  • experience working on committees, task forces or similar settings;
  • demonstrated knowledge of quasi-judicial proceedings;
  • availability and willingness to attend meetings (day and/or evening); and
  • excellent oral and written communication skills.

Applicants who are a qualified elector, with a background in accounting, auditing or law are encouraged to apply.

Board members, staff or candidates running for office in the 2022 municipal elections for the ALCDSB are not eligible. To avoid conflict of interest, appointees must not undertake audits or prepare financial statements for the 2022 electoral candidates.

The term of the Compliance Audit Committee will commence November 15, 2022 and continue through to November 14, 2026.

Applications in the form of a letter outlining your experience, interest and qualifications will be received up to September 23, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.
