Students Experience the Real World of Poverty

October 25, 2018

On October 25, students from all five ALCDSB secondary schools participated in the annual Poverty Challenge at Loyalist College. This dramatic exercise allows students to walk in the shoes of their most vulnerable neighbours.

Students start the day off by receiving information and assume the role of a person living in poverty and have the challenge of going to various stations throughout Loyalist College that represent real life scenarios. Students will have to visit various agencies around the college, such as going to Family Court, Children's Mental Health Services, Ontario Works, a women's shelter and more.

Each year the Poverty Challenge Quinte provides students with a look into the real world of poverty and experience the day-to-day challenges that many Canadians face.

Thank you to all volunteers that make this event possible.
