The Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School’s EcoTeam organized a month-long calendar of events for Earth Month.
The first week in April launched a whole school clothing drive, where the EcoTeam collected and organized dozens of gently used clothes items, transforming the school’s foyer into a clothing bizarre.
The school’s first-ever Fast Fashion Swap took place over lunch hour on Friday, April 12 and was a huge success. Items were sold for $1.00 per piece. All the money raised will be donated to Sustainability Kingston.

Leftover used clothing items will be either upcycled or donated to St. Vincent De Paul. The EcoTeam’s next scheduled event, The Sewing Workshop, takes place on Friday, April 19. Students will have the opportunity to use clothing items that didn’t sell, to learn how to embroider, repurpose clothes, mend and repair damaged or worn fabrics.
Other events scheduled to take place at HCCSS in April are World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) National Sweater Day on Wednesday, April 24, where the temperature in school will be lowered to reduce emissions and students can wear a hoodie and their standard uniform bottoms.
Earth Month will wrap up with ‘Pitch In Day’ Friday, April 26. Period 3 classes will be invited to participate in a neighborhood clean-up.
