September 25, 2023, Professional Development Day Focus
P.A. days are professional activity and professional development opportunities for all school staff to engage in and learn.
There are seven P.A. days throughout the 2023/24 school year, approximately once a month. To view the school year calendar, click here.
Details about each P.A. day can be found on the board website, under News & Announcements, two weeks prior to each scheduled date.
From Educational Assistants and Youth Workers to educators K-12, each group will focus on their own professional development.
Education Assistants and Youth Workers will focus on:
- Behaviour Management Systems recertification.
- Supporting Indigenous students (Jordan’s Principle).
Primary Teachers and Early Childhood Educators will focus on:
- Learning how to identify children at risk for reading difficulties and providing support.
Junior Teachers will focus on:
- Implementation of the new Language Curriculum.
- Effective practices for supporting students with literacy skills across the curriculum.
Intermediate Teachers will focus on:
- Implementation of the new Language Curriculum.
- Effective practices for supporting students with literacy skills across the curriculum.
Secondary Teachers will focus on:
- Implementation of the new Language Curriculum.
- Effective practices for supporting students with literacy skills across the curriculum.
French as a Second Language Teachers will focus on:
- Focus on embedding Common European Framework of References (CEFR) into classroom practice.
- Work on implementation of new French-language curriculums.
Elementary Itinerant Arts Teachers:
- Effective practices for supporting students with literacy skills across the curriculum.
In addition, all ALCDSB staff will be participating in occupational health and safety training modules on this day.
