HC student wins video contest

June 15, 2016

RyanMurrayGroup.jpgCongratulations to Grade 11 Holy Cross student Ryan Murray who won third place in the Ontario Ministry of Labour's 2015-2016 "Student Video Contest". Ryan received provincial recognition for his two minute Public Service Announcement television commercial on the topic of "Working Safely On The Job". Ryan used his creativity to develop his original video "When You Gamble With Safety, You Bet Your Life" that can be used by the Ministry in social media to illustrate the importance of safety at work for students. Two classes of grade 11 Communications Technology in first and second semester produced videos for the competition.

For Ryan's efforts he was rewarded with a $1,000 cash prize! $1,000 is also awarded to his school. In addition, Holy Cross receives the "Chief Prevention Officer's Participation Award of Merit" and Communications Technology teacher Mr. John Esford receives the "Outstanding Teacher Award of Merit" for entering the most student video productions.

Ryan is a member of the Specialist High Skills Major in Information and Communications Technology focus program at Holy Cross. The HC SHSM provides students with numerous benefits and enrichment opportunities. If students are interested in post-secondary school studies and a career in the media production industry, please see your HC Guidance Councillor and ask about the SHSM program.
