Social Media, Technology + Mental Health
Join practicing Family Physician, and mom to two young kids, Dr. Alison Yeung, MD, CCFP, for an important discussion about the relationship between social media/technology and mental health.

Dr. Yeung believes digital technology can present both challenges and opportunities for young people.
In this session the following topics will be explored:
- general trends in adolescent mental health over the past two decades
- societal factors that have contributed to screen overuse
- how Big Tech is contributing to child online safety harms
- identifying which kids are at higher risk of problematic screen use
- signs and symptoms of social media and/or video game overuse/addiction
- how to approach a child asking for a smartphone
- when to introduce a smartphone/access to social media
- how to implement healthy boundaries and model healthy use of technology at home
