Dear Parents/Guardians, I am writing to you today to provide an update with regards to the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) job action. The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board has received notice that parties involved in provincial negotiations will be returning to the central bargaining table on Monday, February 24, 2020. As a result, OECTA will suspend their planned rotating strikes scheduled for the week of February 24 – 28. Therefore, the rotating strike that was planned to affect ALCDSB schools on Thursday, February 27, 2020 will be suspended. At this time, all ALCDSB schools will be open for the remainder of the week. The enhanced administrative job action by OECTA members will continue. This means that OECTA members will only undertake their scheduled teaching and supervision duties. They will not accept additional tasks or assignments. Teachers will continue to provide extra-curricular activities. The declaration of and continuation of this job action is a result of central (provincial level) negotiations and decisions that will be made at that level. At ALCDSB, we do not control the decisions regarding job action. We are uncertain of the possibility and duration of this job action. ALCDSB will continue to monitor this job action closely and provide parents/guardians with updates through the board website, www.alcdsb.on.ca and through school websites and social media.
