Every day in Canada we waste 1 200 000 tomatoes, 750 000 loaves of bread and 1 225 000 apples. That’s a lot of waste! 32% of lost and wasted food could be rescued to support communities across the country. The annual cost of avoidable food waste per household is approximately $1 766! How can we help reduce food waste? We can plan meals and making a grocery list, store fruits and vegetables properly so they last longer, get creative with leftovers, thinking about expiry dates when we go shopping and compost leftover organics.
