Kingston, ON - Regiopolis-Notre Dame (RND) Catholic High School students are gearing up to be live on-stage this week. The local Catholic high school is presenting The Addams Family Musical December 15-17.

It is the secondary school’s first time putting on the cheeky take on the iconic television series. The dark, yet comical, musical has a cast of 36 students, 12 pit band members and a small but mighty team of parent volunteers. The production has multiple sets consisting of backdrops on wheels and pulley systems to ensure smooth transitions throughout the show.

“It’s a HUGE costume show!” says Will Cunningham, show Director and RND Drama Teacher. “We’ve got a whole cast of dead ancestors wearing lots of makeup in predominantly gray clothing to contrast them against the characters in our living cast” he said. “The hard work and dedication of our students and parent volunteer group has really shone during these past few weeks. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have a group of highly creative individuals assisting in the construction of multiple sets and the crafting of winning combinations of costume and props, specific to each individual character,” said Cunningham.

What is different about this production for Grade 11 student Neshaya Wijeratne, is the depth of the characters. “In last year’s RND production of High School Musical I played Taylor McKessie, a brainy but outgoing teen. In this year’s production I have been cast the role of Morticia, Wednesday’s mother. I have had to work really hard to ensure I portray her character to the audience in a way, so that they perceive her as a caring mother and respectable role model”.

Public performances of The Addams Family commence with opening night on Thursday, December 15 and carry on to Saturday, December 17.
