Incoming Student Trustees Take Oath of Office

Incoming student trustees for the 2022/2023 school year took their "Oath of Office" at the June Board Meeting on Tuesday evening.


David DeSantis, Director of Education for the ALCDSB welcomed incoming student trustees Marlow Slatter (left) and Mary Mekhaeil (right) and their families.

Mary Mekhaeil, entering grade 11 this fall at Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School, will represent the eastern constituency of ALCDSB.  Marlow Slatter, entering grade 11 this fall at Nicholson Catholic College, will represent the western constituency of the Board. 

In the role of student trustees, Mary and Marlow, will act as the east and west heads of the Student Senate.

It is the responsibility of the student trustee to inform the Senate of issues affecting students across the board, to gather student opinions in order to fulfill their roles as student representatives and to allow each school council to share their events and ideas with each other.

Student trustees makes a significant contribution to the school board, representing all elementary and secondary students in the system.

The student trustee attends monthly Committee and Board meetings and other commitments throughout the school year. The student trustee is also part of the Ontario Student Trustees' Association, which is the voice of students across Ontario.

Outgoing Student Trustees

The Board of Trustees also said farewell to outgoing Student Trustees, Alyssa Phieffer and Abby Ows and thanked them for their service.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Board Chair Tom Dall (above) presented Abby (left) and Alyssa (right) with a plaque as a token of appreciation.

Alyssa, who represented the western constituency of the board, is entering grade 12 this fall at St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School in Belleville.

Abby, who represented the eastern constituency of ALCDSB, is entering grade 12 a Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School this fall in Kingston.​
