Help Your Child Catch up on School Age Immunizations

May 30, 2022

ISPA-Postcard.pngThroughout the pandemic, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) was unable to provide school-based immunization clinics or community clinics for childhood vaccines, and access to some health care providers was limited. Unfortunately, this resulted in many children and youth falling behind in their routine vaccinations.

In accordance with the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), many immunizations, and updated immunization records are required for your child to attend school. Families are encouraged to start planning now to ensure your child is up to date with their vaccines. These vaccines are available through your child's health care provider.

If this is not an option, HPEPH is offering catch-up immunization clinics. Contact HPEPH to book your child's appointment at 613-966-5500 ext. 221, or book online at hpepublichealth.ca/clinic/immunization-clinic.

The following immunizations (or a notarized exemption) are required for your child to attend school in accordance with the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA):
  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus
  • Polio
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Pertussis (whooping cough)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)*
  • Meningoccal disease
* For children born in 2010, or later.

Visit hpePublicHealth.ca/daycare-school-immunizations/ or contact HPEPH at 613-966-500 ext. 221 for further information about your child's immunization record. All ISPA immunizations are free of charge!
