Kingston West Catholic Elementary School is set to break ground this Spring

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) is excited to share that the new Kingston West Catholic Elementary School will be breaking ground this spring.

In December 2021, ALCDSB received approval to award the tender for the new elementary school in the Woodhaven subdivision, located on Holden Street.

The $20.9 million project will be a dual stream school, providing ALCDSB students with outstanding opportunities for learning in both French and English, within a state-of-the-art facility. This project is part of the province's capital investment program to support students with better learning spaces.

Highlights of the Kingston West Catholic Elementary School will include:

• 481 elementary student spaces.

• 4 new child care rooms, providing 73 new licensed child care spaces.

• 3 new EarlyON Child and Family Centre rooms.

The Board worked with the architectural design team of Colbourne & Kembel, Architects Incorporated, in partnership with Fielding International, an architecture firm who specializes in school facilities, in the design of the new school.

“As a Catholic school community we are excited to see this project coming to fruition," said David DeSantis, Director of Education.

“We recognize that families are passionate about French Immersion education and this new build will alleviate population pressures at our other French Immersion sites, allowing us to offer the best in French Immersion programming to local families. Elevating our French Immersion programming is something that is of high importance in the Board's Multi-Year Strategic Plan."

“We thank the province for their productive collaboration, and significant investment in our Catholic school board and its students."

The Board has a targeted completion date of September 2023 for this project and will provide updates throughout the project on the Board website and social media platforms.

A groundbreaking ceremony will occur on site in the Spring. Date to be announced.

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board serves approximately 12,000 students, employs over 1,400 full-time equivalent staff and covers a geographical area of more than 16,000 square kilometers.
