Program Focus

Our program will focus on developing Fundamental math skills, and the concepts based on the following framework:

  • Working with numbers: Understanding and using numbers (e.g., being able to read, represent, count, order, estimate, compare, compose, decompose, and recompose numbers).
  • Recognizing and applying understanding of number properties: Understanding how numbers behave in operations and drawing on that understanding to master math facts and perform calculations.
  • Mastering math facts: Understanding and recalling math facts, using a variety of strategies.
  • Developing mental math skills: Doing calculations in the mind, with little or no use of paper and pencil or calculator.
  • Developing proficiency with operations: Performing calculations with ease, precision, and consistency and with a general understanding of number and operations, number properties, and their appropriate application in problem solving.

Program Structure

Students will receive 45 hours of mathematics instruction that focuses on further developing fundamental math skills. The full-day primary programs will include a recreational component in the afternoons and will provide some fun opportunities for students to explore learning outside of the regular classroom.  These activities will be announced by the classroom teacher to parent(s)/guardian(s) the week before the camp begins, but may include bowling, community parks or trips to local museums or splash pads.

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) with children registered in our primary program will have the choice as to whether they would like their child to participate in the recreational component portion of the program.

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) Reminders

In order for the programs to have the greatest impact for our students, we would ask that parents agree to have their child attend for the entire three weeks of the program.  If for any reason a parent decides to withdraw their child from the program, parents are asked to inform their child's summer program teacher, so that spot can be designated to another child.

Parent(s)/guardian(s) are responsible for providing their children with a change of clothes, lunches, snacks, drinks and sunscreen throughout the duration of our programs.

All programs are subject to enrollment.  If a site is unable to accommodate a program due to low enrollment parent(s) and guardian(s) would be advised via email by June 22nd. If this is the case the principal of summer school will attempt to make another site available, so that your child may be able to participate at another school in your region. If parents do not receive an email by June 22nd their child should attend the program to which they were registered.

Parent(s) and guardian(s) will receive a "Welcome email" from their child's Summer Learning Program teacher prior to the first day of our program.

Upon registration parent(s)/guardian(s) are agreeing that a progressive discipline model will be followed for all students and that their child may be removed from the program as a final step in this process.  This decision will be made by the Principal and Vice principal of summer school.

Thank you for agreeing to have your child take part in our summer program. We look forward to providing your child with a safe, fun and engaging learning experience.
