Week Eight - Emergency Learning from Home

Good morning RND Community.

Welcome to the start of Week Eight of Emergency Learning from Home.   I hope and trust all are faring well and looking out for your own well-being and that of the common good.  There is no doubt these are historic times.   In this month of Mary, we ask for her intercessions for all of our needs.

We still await further direction on June (and will share when available) but have begun make plans for virtual year end celebrations (Athletic Banquet, arts)  and other events such as Relay for Life and CoffeeHouse.   Please see the RND website and the various social media accounts for more information.   We do not have any further guidance on Graduation at this time and await word from the Director of Education (based on Ministry and Public Health advice).  At this point, it sure looks like any ceremony would likely be delayed, maybe into the fall.   More to come when we have a clearer picture.

Late Friday (I believe), the Ministry revised some of its remote learning expectations and protocol.   Our board is working this week to better understand and implement the changes.    Again, more to come when it is available.

Here are three items to note:

  1. VIRTUAL ATHLETIC BANQUET

Happy Monday!!  With society gradually coming off isolation odds are we will be airing a virtual Athletic Banquet....not ideal but it is something for our school community.  A chance to celebrate  our student-athletes, especially those that are graduating and those that unfortunately did not have a Spring season.

I am hoping to collect SHORT video clips of graduating student-athletes saying what their favorite memory was from playing sports at RND or what they liked the most of playing for RND.   I am hoping to have somebody on Student Council do one as an example for everybody to see.   I'm looking for help to get this out to everybody.  I am hoping that teachers of senior students can share this through their courses.   Please tell students that submissions are due by May 25th and can be sent to me at farrellp@alcdsb.on.ca.   Thanks in advance for your help with this.

Mr. Farrell,  Athletic Director

  1. SCHOOL UNIFORMS

Dear RND Families,

As we navigate the COVID-19 crisis together, I wanted to update you that we have been in close contact with our school uniform provider, McCarthy Uniforms, to ensure the experience of buying a school uniform for the back-to-school 2020 season is safe & easy.

At this time, the school administration is asking that all families, especially families of incoming grade nines, register with McCarthy Uniforms at www.mccarthyuniforms.ca and prepare to shop for school uniforms online.

Registration will provide you with:

  • access to updated information on where and how to shop over the summer months
  • access to flexible payment options and new promotions
  • access to online appointment booking portal for limited in-person fittings, when social distancing measures ease and
  • uniform fit & instructional videos.

Please also note that, until social distancing guidelines are formally relaxed, McCarthy Uniforms In School Shops are not open to the public. That doesn't mean you can't shop for your uniform.  Our school custom e-store is open 24/7 and a McCarthy's call center is fully staffed for both customer support & shopping.  By registering online, you will obtain a notification when stores are open for appointments and walk in service.

I know you will understand that we are all working through this challenging time together. We are all adjusting to new ways of learning and shopping. Please remember that our partner McCarthy Uniforms has a priority responsibility to keep our community safe and has been working tirelessly to ensure that alternate shopping options are available.  They have generously augmented their digital shopping options, invested in additional call center and support resources and have been proactive to ensure that school uniform inventory supply chains are strong & ready for back to school 2020.

Sincerely,

Terri Daniel, Principal
