As you are aware, the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is in the process of creating a plan for the future of St. Michael Catholic School and Nicholson Catholic College.

We value the input of all students, parents/guardians, staff and community members as we work together to best support our students.

Please complete the following survey by sharing your thoughts on one open-ended question:

What are the most important things we need to consider as we work together to create a plan for St. Michael Catholic School & Nicholson Catholic College?

Background

St. Michael Catholic School is currently a K-8 elementary school that is dual track, offering both English and French Immersion. St. Michael Catholic School is at full capacity; the student population continues to grow and additional space is required to accommodate student needs and programming.

Nicholson Catholic Collage is currently a 9-12 secondary school, directly beside St. Michael Catholic School. Nicholson has a surplus capacity and currently offers extended French, but not French Immersion.

The Proposal

In efforts to continue to offer these programs to the community, it is being proposed that St.Michael Catholic School shift to a K-6 school and continue to offer dual track programs.

In addition, Grade 7 and 8 students would attend Nicholson Catholic College. French Immersion would continue to be offered to these students as well as the Grade 9-12 students. Extended French will continue to be offered as well.

Nicholson Catholic College would expand to a French Immersion secondary school, offering French Immersion programming to Grades 7-12.

This proposal is a solution for the over-crowding at St. Michael Catholic School and offers an opportunity to grow the French Immersion program to the secondary level.

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board remains committed to ensuring student achievement and student well-being. Our goal is to work together as a community to create a plan that best supports learning of all students.

This survey allows you to input your thoughts and rate the thoughts of others. Please complete by Sunday, May 24. Once the survey is closed, staff at ALCDSB will review the data and share results with the community. This data will inform our thinking and planning for the 2021-2022 school year. No change is anticipated for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.
