Students Leaving at Lunch

Students Leaving School Grounds at Lunch

Dear parents/guardians,

Students attending St. John XXIII Catholic School are under the jurisdiction of the principal and school staff during school hours as well as the 15 minutes prior to school opening.  Students are expected to remain on St. John XXIII School grounds during the school day, which is from 9:05 – 3:35.  For students who take the bus to school, this includes the time of bus arrival until the time of bus departure.

The only exception would be if student’s parent/guardian give written notification to the school stating that the child is allowed to leave the school grounds during the lunch period to go directly home for lunch. Students should not be stopping at business establishments during this time.

Once written notification is given to the principal by the parent/guardian to go directly home for lunch, the school is absolved of any responsibilities for the child’s welfare and behaviour during the lunch period.  The parent/guardian is taking over this responsibility by giving the child permission to leave the school grounds.  Students who are bussed to school will not be allowed to leave the school at lunch unless a parent/guardian picks up the student.

If you have any questions about the above policy, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

Many thanks,

Michael
