Champions
02.21.03
The Junior Panthers faced an uphill battle after dropping
the first set in Thursday's championship match but the fear
of losing and some late but vocal fan support gave the
girls the boost they needed to steal the win from the
Sydenham Golden Eagles' claws.
Shaky passing lead to a 16-25 defeat in the first
set, but the girls rebounded to squeak out a 25-23 win
in the second set. "I don't know how we won that
second set", quoted coach Mark McKenna after the
match. "We missed so many serves, I lost
count."
Winning the second set, despite inconsistent serving, was
all the impetus the girls needed to come out in the
third set with more confidence. Arguably the turning
point of the match occurred late in the
nail-biting, third set when Martha Williamson made a last
second dig which headed directly for the net. Jessica
Teves made a great play to dig it out of the net
and and power-hitting Annie Kingston jumped on
the dig and cranked it cross-court.
Fortunately the Sydenham defender touched the ball as it was
heading out of bounds. The Panthers went on to
win the third set 26-24.
The momentum carried through to the fourth set as Sydenham
came out with dwindling confidence and the Regi girls turned
up the heat on their serving and hitting. Jessica
Teves polished off five consecutive aces as the Panthers
posted a dominating 25-14 fourth set win.

The win was a fantastic team effort and the girls
look forward to competing for the EOSSAA title next
week.
Quarter-Final Sweep to the Semi's
02.20.03
The RND Junior girls have advanced to the semi-finals with a
3-0 sweep over the Napanee Golden Hawks. The outcome
was never in doubt during the quarter-final action that saw
the girls finally hitting their pre-break stride.
Transition practice paid off as the girls converted
some great defensive plays to offensive kills. Kudos
to Alexandra Howard who has settled comfortably into the
libero/defensive specialist position. The girls look
forward to meeting pre-season favourites Holy Cross in the
semis on February 18th. Expect an exciting match as
the teams come in with a 2-2 head to head record.
On a Playoff Roll with Season Ending Victory
02.12.03
RND broke the mold of 5 set victories with a slightly
shorter 3-1 win over the Lasalle Black Knights. The win
means the improving Panthers finish the KASSAA campaign with
a 10-1 record and will host a quarter-final playoff game on
Thursday at RND
A Close
Call 01.17.03
The Jr. Panthers suffered their first league game defeat of
the season against the strong serving Sydenham Golden
Eagles. After a getting off to a typically slow start, the
Panthers came back from an 8 - 1 deficit to win the first
set 26 - 24. Sydenham took the next two sets but REGI
came back in the fourth set with an altered line-up moving
Ivana Lochhead to the power position and Alexandra Howard to
the libero position. These changes resulted in a
lopsided 25-11 win. Unfortunately, the Panthers could
not recover from another slow start in the critical but
shortened fifth- set rally point game. The marathon game of
five sets didn't end until well into the evening! The
Jr. Panthers remain in 1st place in the KASSAA standings.
Congratulations to Martha Williamson for winning the
first "hustle" award of the season.
Panthers close
the cage on Falcons 01.16.03
(jv)
On Tuesday night, the junior varsity Panthers defeated
Frontenac 3-1. Frontenac, the hosting team, took the first
game from the girls with a score of a mere 25-23. In the
next two games, Regi allowed themselves plenty of breathing
room, each game being 25-12. The deciding set, 25-16, though
a little closer than the previous ones, awarded the ladies
the victory!
They will meet Sydenham, yet again, on Thusday evening at
5:30.
Panthers lose in semis 01.13.03
This weekend
Regi's junior girls fell just short of being in the final
game at Holy Cross' tournment on Saturday, losing against
Sydenham.
Game was taken in four 01.10.03
Yesterday at home, the girls played Holy Cross, a very stong
team both offensively and defensively. It was predicted to
be a hard game. In four sets, they took the win, each set
having a close score. The Panthers will play at Frontenac on
Tuesday night at 4:00.
Regi captures another
win 01.08.03
Kyla Tozer began the match by serving up 6 consecutive
points including two aces to lead the Junior Panthers to a
decisive 25 - 16 first set win. The Panthers went on
to beat the Golden Hawks 3 - 0 with scores of 25 - 15 and 25
-21 in the second and third sets respectively.
Additional strong serving by Martha Williamson and
Tashia Cadue was the key to the RND's 3rd straight set win.
The final set ended in exciting fashion with a spectacular
dig by Courtney Purves converted to a kill by Maria Karara.
RND remains atop the Junior standings with a 5 - 0
record.
Panthers win in 5
12.20.02
(dl, jv)
Regi hosted Ernestown last night, and twice erased one game
deficitis to nip the opponents. They won the deciding game,
15-12. The last match was a nailbaiter, but Regi pulled out
ahead.
The girls are taking a Christmas break, and resuming again
after with a league game on the Tuesday returning.
Regi defeats QE
12.18.02
(dl,jv)
The Junior girls displayed a strong team effort as they took
the game against the Raiders in three sets last night. The
Panthers dominated the first two, however, the final was a
close one. The Panthers prevailed 28-26.
At home on Thursday, regi will play the Ernestown
Eagles.
With grace
12.13.02
Annie Kingston and
Martha Williamson served up 14 points and 12 points
respectively to lead the Junior girls to a straight set win
over Ecole Secondaire Marie-Rivier. The scores were
25-9, 25-11 and 25-19. Unlike the nailbiter at KCVI on
Tuesday, RND took command from the opening whistle.
The convincing win is dedicated to co-coach Mark
McKenna who was at the hospital providing support to his
wife Talia and newborn baby Grace. Congratulations
Mark! The junior panthers are now 2-0 heading into
their first tournament being held in Napanee on Saturday.
Regards, Tracey Corrigan
