Update from E-Mail 01.08.13 Plans for our trip and tournament to Ridley College in St. Catherines are coming together. Mrs. Lambert, Mrs. Gouett and Mr. Saunders have offered to help with transportation - Thank You. This should provide us with lots of space. We have also rented a van that Mr. Corbin and/or myself will drive. We have made plans for our team to stay together in the rooms we booked as noted on our web site. As our costs are changing as numbers headed to St. Catherines are changing I not able to give a specific "extra fee" to cover the cost of rooms/transportation. Suffice to say it will be small and if we can cover it with your earlier player's fee - we will. For players traveling with parents; if you plan to stay in a room with a parent please let me know right away. See the tournament draw, maps and more information on our web site. We plan to leave from RND at 9:30. Be sure to attend the first part of period one to get homework. Let your teachers know of your absence for period 2, 3, and 4. For our "Hoosiers" trip to Belleville and games on Thursday I booked a bus and we will leave from the Cowdy St. entrance at 2:15. Senior and Junior teams will travel together. Remember to bring both uniforms, towel, water bottle etc... - we are playing two games. We will head right back to RND, by bus, after the second game. Another Nailbiter for RND 12.08.12 The 8:00 tip for the Championship of the Harrisville Pirates Invitational tournament saw the RND Panthers get out to a very uninspired start. Down 11 - 3 in the games first 3 minutes the Garnet & Gold rallied in an offensively minded period to pull to a 21-21 draw at the end of the first quarter. Foul trouble and some mental lapses hampered RND throughout the contest but especially in the second frame. The hot shooting, home team pulled out to a 35-30 advantage at the half. RND rebounded immediately after the action resumed scoring the first seven points of the second half and for most of the half the Panthers clung to a small lead. A long three pointer from Connor Santoni pushed the lead to 5 with 2 minutes remaining. However the Panthers were holding on in the games final seconds with two starters on the bench having fouled out. With the contest tied at 62, the final 40 seconds saw the Panthers fail to convert on offense and then defend until the final 3.7 when a foul put Harrisville on the line. After the two made free throws RND had a very good look from behind the arc, but it rimmed out and the Panther fell just short of the tournament championship. The trip to New York state provided RND with two very competitive contests. In 64 minutes of basketball no team had a lead of more than 8 points at any one time. The Panthers return to the practice court after three games in three days with lots to work on and plenty of anticipation of improvement and success ahead. Panthers Overcome in OT 12.07.12 The RND Varsity Boys Basketball team traveled to Harrisville Central School to compete in the Harrisville Pirates Invitational tournament. The Panthers overcame the Cavaliers of Immaculate Heart College in Watertown, 72 - 68 in overtime, in a very exciting and well played opening round game. Duncan Lambert lead the RND attack dropping in 25 with a balanced inside and outside attack. Kenzie Harris followed with 23 more, many in the fast break and on the offensive boards. The Cavaliers are a young and impressive group of skilled shooters. Well coached and fundamentally sound, several times IHC fought back after RND would work to open a margin of 6 points or more. After a 63-63 tie in regulation, during the extra four minute period RND used its dominance on the boards and power running the floor and driving to the basket to outscore IHC as the Cavalier's outside shooting finally cooled off in the games final minutes. RND advances to the tournament championship against the home court Harrisville Pirates after they defeated the Gouveneur Wildcats 70 - 48 in the tournaments other opening round game. Added to the excitment and opportunity of the 8:00 championship game is the 4:30 Junior Varsity contest which will feature another match-up between the hometown Pirates and the Junior Varsity RND Panthers. Harrisville Pirates Tournament 11.25.12 For the first time in three years the Panthers will return to compete in New York State. This year the Senior Panthers will travel to Harrisville, New York for the hometown, Harrisville Pirates tournament. In New York state high school teams are only allowed to play one game a day. For the tournament the Panthers will play on Friday and then again on Saturday. The Athletics Director and Booster Club at Harrisville have sent the following: Tournament Outline including a Schedule of Games and Thank You Letter. Parents and Players should consider the following points about traveling to the United States for our basketball games.
