Semi Final Victory The Panthers traveled west to Odessa to face the second place Eagles of Ernestown for the right to play on Sunday in the KASSAA Championship game. The Panthers were focused right from the beginning, scoring on the tip and holding a small lead throughout the first half. RND played strong defense and were underrewarded for their offensive decision-making in the first half. The second half was a see-saw event with Ernestown holding a four point lead with 5:30 remaining. However, the Panthers forced several turnovers and converted on 9 of 10 from the foul line to overtake the Eagles and secure a 47 - 40 victory. Panthers Claw Crusaders in Quarters After a slow first quarter the Panthers piled 20 points on the board in the second frame securing an 11 point led at half. RND kept up the defensive pressure and benefitted from several turnovers in second half that offered easy scoring opportunities. A 41 - 33 victory over Holy Cross places the Panthers in the KASSAA semi-final on Thursday. Playoff Preparation and Practice The Panthers will meet in room 156 at 2:40 to prepare for their quarter-final match-up. Following this meeting the team will move to the RND gym for practice until approximately 5:30. The team also plans on practice on Monday, February 15. Season Finale on the Home Court Tied 27 - 27 at half the Panthers broke out in the third quarter scoring 27 more in that frame to stretch out a sizable lead. The key to the second half surge was a defense that pressured the Raiders on every possession. Reid Levac went 9 for 10 for the Panthers from the foul line while John Justinich lead RND is scoring with 16 points. Crosstown Win at KC The game was a series of runs by both teams. RND jumped out to a 6 point led only to see KC recover and move ahead by 4. RND regrouped and held a 18-17 advantage at half. The Panthers used their advantage in the low post to score early and often and go ahead by 10 going into the fourth quarter. The fourth frame starts with a 7-0 KC run before the Panthers picked up the defensive intensity and moved the ball back inside in securing a 41 - 36 victory. RND goes 6 for 6 from the foul line in the final quarter and an impressive 17 for 19 overall. RND stepped up it's full court defence in the second half causing HC to turn the ball over and the Panthers scored several times in resulting fast breaks. RND allowed only 11 points in the second half. Regi Rolls at the Ridge The Panthers broke out to a 12 - 2 advantage in the first 4 minutes versus Bayridge at BSS. The opponents narrowed it to 4 in the second frame, before RND reestablished a 10 margin at half 32-22. Jaguar Classic Tournament - Ottawa - Results 01.07.10 The Panthers opened the event at 8:00 in the home school gym at St. Joseph's versus the Eagles of Notre Dame CHS in Ottawa. The group from Notre Dame were a very fast and athletic group that matched the Panthers physically. However, after some early game errors, RND played solid basketball, especially on defense, to frustrate the opposition throughout most of the contest. The RND drew four defensive charge calls in the first half alone while building a 13 point lead. RND confidently protected their advantage for the first 10 minutes of the second half and then pulled away in the final 6 minutes on their way to a 58 - 40 victory. In their second game RND faced Sir Robert Borden on their home court, in front of a large lunch period crowd. The Panthers kept pace with the hot shooting home school until mid-way through the first half. Some long three saw SRB pull out to an 11 point margin. RND hung tough on D and pulled to within 5 at half. A slow start in the second half, with less intensity on defence meant the contest began to fall to SRB with a 15 point gap. RND rallied, and drew to within 8, with the ball. Unfortunately the Panthers could not finish the comeback in a 68 - 58 final.
