Track Report: Panthers Post Personal Bests at Provincials 06.09.07
The Provincial championships provide a new level of competition and pressure for any athlete. The Pack of Panthers whos wore the Garnet and Gold in Ottawa at the OFSAA Track and Field championships used their training and excitement to carry them to several personal bests on the biggest stage. Veronica Catry posted a time of 12.14 in the 100m and finished sixth in the provincial senior girls final. The junior boys final was very fast with Jason Steels finishing seventh with a time of 11.18. In her first OFSAA competition Midget Girl Melanie Robb jumped to 15th place at 10.09m in the Triple Jump and the next day jumped 4.71m in the long jump for an 11th place finish. Saturday saw our high jumpers finishing back to back with Scott Wilson, at his first OFSAA, clearing 1.80m for 10th spot and Jason Steels finishing 11th at 1.75m. Well Done Panthers!! Seven members of the RND Panthers track and field team will be representing the Garnet and Gold at the Provincial Track and Field championships on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This is one of the largest Track and Field meets in North America with many impressive athletes in addition to the talented Pack of Panthers. Athletes Take An Extra Step to OFSAA at East Regionals 06.02.07
The winning streak of the Senior girls 4x100m relay team continued Thursday night in Belleville at East Regionals. The team comprised of Shauna Justinch, Paige Kasaboski, Laura King, and Veronica Catry ran yet another personal best time (50.77) and won by almost a full second over the second place finishers. Rookie Melanie Robb captured a bronze medal in the Midget girls long jump with a jump of 4.60. So with day one complete, all Panther competitors qualified for OFSAA . After day two a Regi in total advances 7 athletes to OFSAA track and field in Ottawa this\ weekend. Gold medal performance by the Senior girls relay, silver medals were\ earned by Veronica Catry and Jason Steels in the 100m, bronze medals were\ captured by Melanie Robb in the triple jump, and Scott Wilson in the high jump.All athletes are to be congratulated for qualifying for the biggest track meet in North America, and we wish them all the best as they compete June 7 - 9 at Terry Fox Stadium. Yesterday, under sunny skies and despite the heat, the RND Track and Field team had a record-breaking day. Leading the way was Jason Steel's new record in the 100m - 11.24 electronic time, and a bronze in the triple jump. Veronica Catry captured the 100m and bronze in the sprint hurdles. Winning gold medals again was the 4 X 100m Senior girls team of Shauna Justinich, Paige Kasaboski, Laura King and Veronica Catry. Melanie Robb earned a silver medal in Long Jump and 4th in the Triple Jump. Kevin Cooper had a bronze in the 100m and was 5th in the 200m. Qualifying also was Laura King in the Long Jump and Scott Wilson in High Jump. Good luck to all athletes next week at Regionals, in Belleville. It was a great day for RND track and field athletes competing at the KASSAA championship,earning a top five finish for the team and the advancement of 36 athletes to EOSSAA. Highlights of the day include triple gold for Senior Girl Veronica Catry. Read the story in the Kingston Whig Standard documenting Veronica's success - Click Here. Double gold junior boy Jason Steels and senior girl Laura King also had exceptional days. Both Jason and Veronica set new meet records in the 100m. Midget Girls Triple Jump gold medalist Melanie Robb also had a big day with three top three finishes. Capturing silver was Scott Wilson,Josef Freunderfor, Shauna Justinich, and bronze went to Elyse Owens, Amr Omer, Nathan Compeau,and Greg Mittler, the senior boys relay team of Tyler Lajoie, Taylor Robertson, Rudi Jones and Keiron Leefoon, the midget girls relay team of Julia Bannard, Melanie Budd, Jen Baxby and Melanie Robb. In their final competition before the all important KASSAA Track and Field Championships next week, the athletes of the Panther Track and Field team are testing their skills at the Ottawa Lions Meet at the Terry Fox facility in Ottawa. This weekend the City of Brockville and Thousand Island Secondary School showed off their new synthetic track at the TISS Pirates Invitational Meet. Road Race Results for Regi 07.24.07
Under sunny skies, despite a cool wind, the Regi track team of middle and long distance runners competed in the annual Bayridge Raod Race. Midget girl Megan Hutcheson captured a gold medal, 5 athletes earned silver medals Jacquie Kueper, Paul Kenney, Katie Abeles, Angela Lanteigne, and Senior Boy Greg Mittler.Rounding out the medal count with a bronze was Aynslee Payne. All runners are to be congratulated an excellent performance for RND.
