KASSAA Girls Rugby Championships 05.16.09
The hard work and new found success of the Girls Rugby team has now taken these talented girls all the way to the KASSAA championship game. Unfortunately their season ended there dropping a 15 - 5 decision to the Napanee Golden Hawks. The Garnet and Gold girls played hard the entire contest and drew even midway through the first half with an inspired run and try my Kelsie Tobin. However the Golden Hawks countered with the go ahead try right as the first half ended. RND continued to tackle and run aggressively against the larger and older group from Napanee however the well played contest ended 15-5 for NDSS.
The future of girls rugby is certainly very bright at RND and the girls should be congratulated for the improvement and success they achieved throughout the season.

Girls Rugby Qualify for KASSAA Finals 05.15.09
In an unbelievable match against crosstown rivals Holy Cross, the RND girls rugby team showed they had what it takes to be contenders for the KASSAA title. The game was intense, but with a final score of 3-0 the Panthers held their ground and demonstrated how determination and hard work win games.
Holy Cross came out strong in the first half, but the Panthers kicked in with impressive tackling and held them at the try line with clean defence. Nicole Shaver kicked for post on a penalty, chalking up a lead they would not give up for the rest of the game. The second half saw the girls set the tone: controlling the ball, maintaining consistent rucking and holding excellent field position.
Incredible play was had by all of the players who dug deep and showed courage under fire. Special recognition goes out to Emily De Sousa once again for her game saving tackles and great anticipatory play. Back line Ellen Fargo, Pam Chesney and Kelsie Tobin worked the ball nicely and held the line with resolved play. And of course, yet again, Nicole Shaver elevated her play to a whole new level, showing true heart and leadership on and off the field.
Overall it was a hard earned team victory. Congratulations girls, your coaches and fans are so proud of you. Good luck in the finals!!
RND High Scorers: Nicole Shaver 1 penalty kick (3 points)
