Busy Tuesday of Semi-Final Action 05.20.13

Six different Panther teams will compete on Tuesday as they look to qualify for the KASSAA Finals on Thursday.

First the Junior Boys Rugby team, hot off their impressive Friday afternoon quarter-final victory over Holy Cross, will travel to Lasalle to battle the Black Knights with a spot in the final in the balance.

Also on the road will be the Senior Boys Soccer team which is also carrying momentum after their disciplined quarter-final victory.

RND will be the site of a quadruple-header of Semi-Final action. Three consecutive Soccer match-ups will be capped off with a Senior Boys Rugby match. With each of these games and Panthers are working to propel themselves into Championship contests on Thursday.

Tuesday is a great day to cheer on the Garnet & Gold.

 


KASSAA Track and Field Championships 05.16.13
Day Two - Thursday:The RND Track and Field Team had 32 athletes qualify for the EOSSAA Championships in Brockville next week. We brought home 37 medals. We had two TRIPLE medal winners, Hailey Wolfgram was a 3x Gold medal winner (jav, shot, disc) and set a new record in midget girls discus. Steven Scott captured a silver (shot) and two bronze (jav. disc.) Branna MacDougall was a DOUBLE Gold winner (1500m, 800m) and also set a new meet record in the midget 1500m race. Paul Sagriff raced to a silver in the 3000m and bronze in the 1500m events. Jahmaal Branker won a silver in 200m and a bronze in shot. He also qualified in the 4x100m relay. Mairead Corrigan captured silver in the 400m and bronze it the 800m. Tyrrell Downer was a double bronze medalist in the 200m and 400m but also qualified in the 100m event. Moving up to our veteran, double event winners Jasmine Zahra was first in javelin and third in discus. Seniors were led by Abbi Finnan who won the 100m hurdles and was second!
in the 100m. Emily Drouin raced to two silver in the 800m and 1500m. Kevin Bates won gold in the 1500m and bronze in the 3000m. Stellar single medal winners were Danny Amaral (2nd in AB 100m), Robert Connors (1st in MB high jump), MacKenzie Curran (3rd in JG 80m hurdles), Justin Kellerman-Thompson (3rd in SB 400m hurdles), Luke Kilpatrick (1st in SB long jump), Samantha Mahoney (3rd in JG 1500m), Ryan O'Brien (3rd in AB 100m)and Sara Phillips (2nd in MG 200m).
We also had two gold for our MG and MB 4 x 100m relay teams (Eva Guiney, Shae Thompson, Jade Fernitich, Sara Phillips) (Jahmall Branker, Tyrell Downer, Robert Connors, Bryant Bishop) as well as a silver for our SB 4 x100m. (Ryan Fox, Harris MacEachern, Tyler Ling, Vadin Ignatov)

Day One - Wednesday: KASSAA Track and Field began with a fine start for the RND Track and Field team. Hailey Wolfgram set the tone with throwing a new record of 27.40 in Midget girls discus. Jasmine Zahra tossed to a bronze in Junior girls disc. While the ladies were launching in the cage, Steven Scott was on the field throwing to a bronze medal in Midget boys Javelin and Discus. The day finished with more Golds in javelin for both Jasmine and Hailey. Competition resumes at CaraCo Home Field tomorrow. Best of luck to all competitors. Go Panthers Go!!


RND Tennis - KASSAA Champions Five Years in a Row! 05.14.13
Congratulations to all members of the RND Tennis team as they captured their fifth consecutive KASSAA Team Championship at the Kingston Tennis Club yesterday. All members of the team contributed greatly to the overall team championship win. Players moving on to EOSSAA next Tuesday the 21st at the Kingston Tennis Club are Sr. Girls Doubles KASSAA Champions Cassy Santoni and Erin Brennan and KASSAA Finalists Lily Dickson, Madison Kyle, Thomas Bouvier, Grace Kennedy, Kristin O Neil, Kelsey Tyerman, Liam Huntley, Tanner Lloyd and Chris Davis. All qualifying players are reminded of the practice tonight and tomorrow at RMC.
Soccer Advances to Semi's 05.15.13
Junior Boys Soccer: The RND Panthers opened the 2013 playoffs with a convincing 5-0 win over Sydenham. The Panthers got three goals from Jordan Pringle, who was returning from injury. Senior Boys Soccer: The Senior's traveled to Frontenac where they defeated the Falcons to move on to the KASSAA semi-finals. Goals by James Truelove and Scott Robb, coupled with shutout keeping by Matt Truelove pushed the Panthers to their 2 - 0 victory.

Girls Soccer - On to the Semi's 05.14.13
Senior Girls Soccer: The Panthers passed their first playoff test with a convincing victory over the Eagles of Ernestown Secondary School on the Brother O'Gara Field. RNDScorers: Katie Balfour, Abbi Finnan, Katie Murphy, Marisa Rostek, Emily Drouin, Logan Frost. Shutout - Marisa Rostek / Renee Paul.
Junior Girls Soccer: The RND Junior Panthers "leaf" no doubt about their deserving a spot in semifinal action next week. The girls came out strong for their first playoff game, with an early goal by Mikayla Rostek. Rostek's point was soon followed by a series of three goals by the Panthers' Cristina Tavares, Emma Lefebvre, and Jennifer Cowan. The girls maintained their lead in the second half with a solid passing game, showing excellent teamwork on both ends of the pitch.
Adding to the Panthers' victory, Natalie Blasko scored one more before the Eagles got one point past goalie Kristina Nuvoloni. The Panther coaches are proud of their team for sticking to their game plan, and not "leafing out" under pressure. Senior Rugby Set for the Playoffs 05.14.13
At Brother O'Gara field the wind made passing and kicking very difficult. Both teams handled the conditions well and the result was an entertaining game with many exciting plays by both teams, culminating in a 19 - 0 RND victory. The Regi forwards lead by Tysen English,JM Noel and Gage Dunleavy ensured that the Panthers had plenty of quality attacking ball to use. Track and Field Results - Bay of Quinte Invitational 05.13.13
It was a "day of doubles" for the RND track and field team in Belleville at the Bay of Quinte Invitational. The team returned to Regi with 12 medals from the day. Our first "daily double" came from Branna MacDougall who not only raced to two golds but she now holds 2 meets records. Branna shattered the midget girls 1500m record by 18 seconds. She also broke the midget 800m record. Tyrell Downer sprinted to a double gold in the 200m and 400m events. Hailey Wolfgram threw shot put and discus to win double silver. She missed by one place in javelin to being a triple event medalist. Paul Sagriff ran to a PB and silver in the 3000m event and a bronze in the 1500m. Our veteran athletes then came through for the team with Vadim Ignatov jumping in triple to a silver. Back on to the track, Kevin Bates won bronze in the 3000m. Julie Bates narrowly missed with a 4th place finish in the senior girls 3000m. Our midget boys 4 x 100m relay team (Jahmaal Branker, Bryant Bish!

Strong in Sydenham 05.09.13
The RND Junior Boys Rugby team traveled to Sydenham to face the Golden Eagles on their home field. As the result of some controlled and determined rucking from Alan Killoran, Edward Chawkowski and Angelo Matusdiaz the Panthers had a steady stream of attacking ball on their way to victory.. Regi's backs made good use of this advantage and spun the ball wide to use the full width of the field to good advantage.

Senior Girls Soccer:RND scored early on in the regular season finale versus KCVI, and that set the tone for the duration of the match. A 5-1 halftime scoreline would expand to 7-1 by the end of the match, with the Panthers closing out KASSAA play in style. Emily Rowsell spearheaded the attack with 3 goals, while Kaitlyn Balfour, Tareca Whittingham, Abbi Finnan and Katie Murphy added singles. Mado Leblanc posted KCVI's lone marker. Junior Boys Soccer: The RND Panthers played with purpose from the opening whistle and earned a 3-0 win over Lasalle. The Panthers got two goals from Damon Matos in the victory. Ryan Almeida picked up the other goal by following up a missed penalty kick. Jordan Pringle made several tough saves to keep the Black Knights off the scoresheet. Panthers Down the Golden Hawks 06 .07.13
Senior Boys Rugby: On a warm, sunny day the Hawks and Panthers met on Brother O'Gara field at Regi. Playing with the wind in the first half the Panthers managed to build a 5-0 lead at the half time whistle. Right from the kick off in the 2nd half the tone of the game changed and the panthers stretched the lead to 12-0 before Napanee quickly narrowed it to 12-7. From that point on it was all Panthers as they pulled away to a 40 7 win. Aiden Tamasauskas 20, Rhys Davies 5, Fred Scott 5, Nick Carriere 10 (5 converts) .
Girls Rugby: The Regi Girls Rugby team played a hard fought doubleheader at home tonight against Napanee. In the first game, despite strong rucking and hard tackling by first year players Keirsten McFie and Holly Hamilton, the girls came up short against the Napanee team. In the second game, with many players moving into new positions, the girls came out running. In her first game at inside centre, game hardest worker winner Tori Paul ran in for the first try and Shannon Wylie kicked the convert. Wylie then followed up with a try of her own, ending the 1st half 12-0 Panthers. In the 2nd half Regi picked up where they left off with 2 tries by Denielle Dickson in her first game at fly half, followed by another by rookie scrum half and player of the game Hannah Boudreau. Fullback Rebecca Wendland kicked 2 converts. Final score 31-10 Regi. The girls play another double-header on Thursday in Sydenham.


Father Stan Memorial versus Holy Cross 05.06.13
Senior Boy Soccer: A delayed kickoff did not dampen the enthusiasm on the Brother O'Gara field as the Senior Panthers scored first in the 30th minute off a Simon Shmitke free kick. RND went up by two when T.J. Deodato knocked in a cross with 20 minute remaining. HC scored off a penalty kick and Matt Truelove made some big saves in the games waning minutes to secure a 2 - 1 RND win.
Junior Girls Soccer: It was a close call for the Junior Panthers at today's Father Stan Memorial game. The girls were kept on their toes by the Crusaders' quick offensive play, but managed to control the field for the majority of the second half. Thanks to a solid Panther defensive line and some gutsy saves by goalie Kristina Nuvoloni, the Panthers held the Crusaders to a shutout. It wasn't until there remained only two minutes on the clock that midfielder Cristina Tavares made a key pass to Bridget Mulholland, who maneuvered through Crusaders defenders to tap in the deciding goal of the game.
Senior Girls Soccer: RND scored in the games opening minutes and carried play throughout until Sara Lefebrve tapped in a second marker mid-way through the first frame. The Panthers had numerous chances in the second half. Emily Drouin's cross was volleyed in by Emily Rowsell as the Panthers stretched their advantage to 3. The Crusaders cashed in on a scramble in the box shortly after, but the outcome was secured, 3 - 1 RND.


Soccer vs Bayridge 05.04.13
Junior Boys Soccer: The RND Junior Boys Soccer team needed a strong second half to secure a 5-2 win over Bayridge. The Blazers jumped out to an early lead in the game, but the Panthers fought back with a relentless attack led by Ryan Almeida, who scored 2-goals. The Panthers also got singles from Ben Zahra, Tegan Silva and John Craft. The 4-0 Panthers will now prepare to face Holy Cross in Monday's Father Stan Memorial game.

The Panthers traveled east to tackle a talented group of Black Knights at Lasalle. Aiden Tamasauskas - 5 points, Connor Plumpton - 5 points, Nic Storr - 5 points and Nick Carriere with 6 more (3 converts) all scored for RND. The Panthers secured a 21 - 14 win.


Baseball Opening Day 05.02.13
Regi tied Sydenham in the top of the 6th inning in their KASSAA opener at Megaffin stadium. The game ended at a 3-3 tie. Orr, Lesley, and Campbell scored for Sydenham in the 3rd and 4th innings. Alex Faroldi for RND scored once in the 4th and again in the 6th. As well, Tyler Mortensen scored in the 6th. Luke Webb for RND got two RBIs when he crushed a double in the top of the 6th.


Panthers Fight the Falcons 05.01.13
Senior Girls Soccer: The RND Panthers and Frontenac Falcons played a rematch of the 2012 KASSAA Championship match on Wednesday afternoon. Kerry Readwin opened the scoring with a soaring shot from 40 yards out the just cleared the keeper's fingertips. RND countered with a beautiful buildup finished with an Emily Rowsell header in front of the net from a Sara Lefebvre cross. Miriam Franchetta broke in alone on goal to allow the Falcons to take a 2-1 lead, but Tareca Whittingham leveled things up with a strong individual effort late in the first half. Junior Boys Soccer: The RND Junior Boys continued their strong play in the 2013 season with a convincing 6-1 win over Frontenac Wednesday. The Panthers scored two quick goals to open the game and controlled the game the rest of the way. Joe Ghabros led the way for RND with the first hat trick of his high school career. Tegan Silva, Jeremy Arnold and Damon Matos added singles. Junior Girls Soccer: The RND Junior Girls soccer team toppled the Frontenac Falcons today, 2 - 1 on the Brother O'Gara pitch, coming back after a deficit of one goal in the first half. Bridget Mulholland tied the game with a beautiful goal. Jennifer Cowan ensured the Panther win by finishing off a beautiful cross from Emma Lefebvre. Special mention goes to Emma Lefebvre and Jasmine Zahra, each of whom stepped up to play goalkeeper for half of the game, holding the Falcons to their single goal. Conquering the Crusaders 04.30.13
Senior Boys Rugby: On a sunny and windy day the senior boys were determined to increase their record to 2-0 in a match against their traditional rivals, Holy Cross. The forwards won a steady supply of good ball and the team was on the front foot for most of the game. The entire squad benefitted from the forwards efforts and Regi cruised to a 44 – 10 win. Tries were scored by Symeon Bellousis 2, David Hron, Aiden Tamasauskas, Stu Mulholland, Nico Vavassis, Harris McEachern and Nic Storr. Nick Carrier kicked 2 converts.
Junior Boys Rugby: In the junior match the Regi came out fast with the wind at their back and jumped out to an early lead. The score was 17-3 at the half. In the 2nd half battling into a strong wind Regi managed to score 2 more tries before Holy Cross scored 2 late tries to narrow the score to 31-17. Tries were scored by Tyler Leach 2, Isiah Higgs, Ameen Aghamirian, Sean Storr. Sean Storr kicked 3 converts.

Soccer Versus Ernestown 04.29.13
Junior Girls Soccer: The Panthers kicked off versus the Ernestown Eagles on the Brother O'Gara field. RND posted a convincing 6 - 0 victory .A solid passing game and strong communication got the RND Jr. Girls off to a great start against ESS, giving them a head start of three goals in the first half by rookies Victoria Fullerton, Kaitlyn Sherboneau and Emma Lefebvre. Natalie Blasko added one more in the second half, followed by Christina Tavares' penalty kick and an addition from the field. The girls look forward to taking on the Falcons tomorrow on the Brother O'Gara Field.

Baseball Opens Season Internationally 04.28.13
The RND Panther baseball team traveled to New York state to face the Harrisville Pirates on Saturday. The home field Pirates came out on top on both ends of the doubleheader, but the game was a great experience for the Panthers. The Panthers dusted off some pre-season rust, against a quality opponent and were treated to a post-game booster club barbeque by the Pirates fans. This was a great follow-up to the December trip to Harrisville by the Boys Basketball teams.
Look for the Panthers at Megaffin Stadium on May 2 when they open the KASSAA regular season versus the Sydenham Golden Eagles.

Kingston Invitations Meet - Results 04.27.13
The Kingston Meet began with quite the ferocious and fast race of the KASSAA Mascots today. The RND Panther bounded to the finish line and pounced on his silver medal. Overall the day exemplified terrific team work in relays while individuals worked hard toward their personal goals for the season. It was a great training day with the perfect combination of competition. Once again, "Team you have made us proud". Next meet is Bay of Quinte on May 10th.


Panthers Battle the Blues 04.25.13
This afternoon on the new Nixon Field at Queen's University the RND Panthers Girls Rugby team defeated the KCVI Blues 20 - 7 in KASSAA action. RND scored with quick runs by rookies Annie Kennedy and Lilly Dickson for tries. Hannah Greenwood overcams a pre-game injury from concrete stairs and picked up many loose balls and crashed forward gaining ground. Sadie Read was a force for the Garnet & Gold as she rucked and tackled hard all game. RND High Scorers: Annie Kennedy - 2 tries, Lilly Dickson - 1 try, Elizabeth Trickey - 1 try. Senior Girls Soccer: A sloppy contest on the Brother O'Gara Field saw the RND Panthers slip by the Marie Rivier Dragons in senior girls soccer action. Emily Rowsell opened the scoring in the first minute of the game, while Gabby Halle, Katie Murphy, Abbi Finnan and Zoe Tremblay rounded out the first half scoring. The Panthers kept control of the game through the second half, with Sadie Morris wrapping up the scoring with her left foot. Mady McDonald registered her third shutout of the season in the Panther net. Junior Girls Soccer: Early in the first half, Reign Badour scored RND's first goal with a top shelf floater to kick off the win. The RND Junior Girls soccer team maintained their passing game throughout, with Paola Finizio finishing off of a beautiful play from the midfield. Goalkeeper Kristina Nuvoloni made some key saves to ensure the 2-0 shutout against Marie Rivier. RND High Scorers: Paola Finizio - 1; Reign Badour - 1.

Junior Boys Soccer: Rain and sloppy conditions couldn't stifle a Regi attack which proved to be too much for a young team from Marie-Rivier. The Panthers jumped out to an early lead on goals by Joe Ghabros and Jordan Pringle and cruised to a 7-1 win. Despite having no substitutes and only a couple of Grade 10 players, Marie-Rivier battled hard against the defending champions on a muddy field. Track Report- Peter Howe Invitational - Trenton 04.24.13
Great work by the RND track and field team Wednesday in Trenton at the Peter Howe Invitational! The boys open medley took second place ( Brady Noonan-400m, Tyrrell Downer-200m, Bryant Bishop 200m, Jordan Pringle-800m) and the midget boys 4x100m relay were third (Jahmaal Branker, Bryant Bishop, Robert Connors, Tyrrell Downer). Jahmaal Branker also sprinted to second in his heat for the midget boys 100m. Special mention goes out to field athletes Vadim Ignatov who placed first in the senior boys long jump, Steven Scott who was first in midget boys shot put and third in discus, Jahmaal Branker who was second in midget boys shot put, and Braelyn Amodeo who was third in senior girls shot put. Regi Rugby Home Opener 03.23.13
Senior Boys Rugby: A goal dive for a try at the 15 minute mark put the Panthers ahead of the Falcons of Frontenac in the KASSAA Senior Boys Rugby opener on the Brother O'Gara field at RND. With the convert the score remained 7 - 0 RND until only 5 minutes remained. Conor Plumpton broke free on a 15 yard run, and with another successful convert the final margin, 14 - 0, was set.
Junior Boys Rugby: The Panthers spread the ball all over the field and similarly spread out their scoring as they defeated the Frontenac Falcons by a score 26 - 5 in the finale of a Rugby tripleheader on the Brother O'Gara field. RND scorers included; Jamall Branker, Sean Storr, Isiah Higgs, Cole Cooper and Ameen Aghamirian.


Spring Soccer Starts vs Sydenham 04.22.13
Junior Boys Soccer: The RND Junior Boys Soccer Team started off their 2013 campaign with a convincing 6-0 over Sydenham. The defending EOSSAA champions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half and saw their game steadily improve the rest of the way. Jeremy Arnold and Jordan Pringle each had 2-goals for the Panthers. Joe Ghabros and Tegan Silva had singles. Sebastian Hubbard earned the clean sheet. The Panthers are back at it again on Wednesday against Marie-Rivier. RND Scorers: Jeremy Arnold (2), Jordan Pringle (2), Joe Ghabros (1), Tegan Silva (1).
Senior Boy Soccer: The Panther twice fought from behind on their way to a 2 - 2 draw with the visiting Golden Eagles. After SHS opened the scoring at the 30 minute mark, Matt Mombourquette quickly drew RND even with a marker five minutes later. In the matches 60th minute the visitors again took the advantage, this time from the penalty spot. Scott Robb brought the Panthers even when he connected 10 minutes later.
Senior Girls Soccer: The RND Panthers kicked off defense of their KASSAA senior girls soccer title with a win away at Sydenham. The Panthers took control of the match in the first half rattling the post early before striking three times in the first 40 minutes. Kaitlyn Balfour, Gabby Halle and Emily Drouin set the pace for the second half, but the Golden Eagles would reply early in the frame. Sadie Morris and Emily Rowsell rounded out the Panther scoring before Sydenham notched a stoppage time goal to end the match. Junior Girls Soccer: The Junior Panthers traveled to Sydenham for their second KASSAA game, both away from home. On the Gord McLellan field in Sydenham RND and the Golden Eagles played to a 1 - 1 draw.


Track and Field Report - From TISS Pirates Meet 04.19.13
The RND Track and Field Team had a fantastic first meet of the season on Friday at the TISS Pirate Relays. Highlights of the day included awesome debuts for midget athletes Hailey Wolfgram and Steven Scott with Hailey taking 1st place in discus, javelin, and shot put and Steven claiming 1st in shot put. Midget boys 4X100m relay (Jahmal Branker, Bryant Bishop Robert Connors, Tyrrell Downer) also sprinted their way to 1st place and senior girl Jasmine Zahra threw her way there in javelin. 2nd place ribbons were won by the co-ed distance medley (Branna MacDougall-1200m, Harris MacEchern-400m, Megan DeSasio-800m, Kevin Bates-1600m), the midget boys sprint medley (Anson Hunt-400m, Bryant Bishop-200m,Tyrrell Downer-200m, Paul Sagriff-800m), senior boy Kevin Bates in steeplechase, midget boy Jahmal Branker in shot put, and senior boy Vadim Ignatov in triple jump. Third place winners were senior boy Luke Kilpatrick in longjump, junior boy Isaac Kilpatrick in long jump, junior boy Jahmal Branker in high jump, the midget co-ed 4x800m relay (Annie Kennedy, Branna MacDougall, Anson Hunt, Paul Sagriff), the senior girls co-ed 4X200m ( Courtney Heyman, Ryan Fox, Vadim Ignatov, Sarah Sanders), the senior girls 4X100m (Courtney Heyman, Paige Ingram, Abbi Finnan, Sarah Sanders), and the senior girls sprint medley (Courtney Heyman, Paige Ingram, Abbi Finnan, Megan Desasio). Congratulations to everyone who participated for their effort and enthusiasm despite rainy and windy conditions. Good luck to the Panthers next week as they compete in Trenton on Wednesday and on Friday at Invista!

Panthers Open on the Pitch 04.18.13
The RND Panthers came out with a strong offensive front despite having the disadvantage of a strong wind in the first half, during the season opening Junior Girls soccer game versus Bayridge. Cristina Tavares had the first goal of the game for the Panthers, followed by Jennifer Cowan's contribution. Paola Finizio scored the third goal of the half after a small skirmish in the Panther box. The Panthers sealed the win with three goals in the second half from Victoria Fullerton, another from Tavares, and a finish directly from a corner kick by Bridget Mulholland.
