Regi
Reigns at Richardson
11.14.04
A fantastic season of fall sports
keeps rolling for Regiopolis-Notre Dame as the Panthers added to their
2004 championships with a Senior Football Crown this afternoon at Richardson
Stadium. In a very well played high school football game RND defeated
the two time KASSAA defending champions from Frontenac, 11 - 10. RND's
defense was again the key to victory as they shut down a Falcon running
attack that had carried FSS into the final contest. In the fourth quarter,
down 10 - 1, Matt Blommstyn hooked up with Greg Plumpton for a 55 yard
catch and run touchdown along the near sidelines, and after the convert
the Panther trailed by only 2 points. The surge of the defensive front
broke through the Frontenc punt protection to partially block a FSS
kick with only 2:10 to play. After recovering the ball on the Falcon
11 yard line, two plays later Jason Milne kicked the winning field goal
to put RND up 11 - 10. The Falcons desperately drove down the field
in the final 51 second but an attempted 34 yard field goal was short
and RND ran the ball out of the endzone to seal the victory.
Congratulations to the Senior Football Players and
Coaches on their Unbeaten, KASSAA Championship season. Fans
can check back to the RND Scoreboard for more game
information, action pictures and a championship movie.
Well
Done Panthers !!
Regi
at Richardson Again 11.10.04
Still etched in
the memory of many Panther fans is last year's dominating
performance by the RND Junior Football team in capturing the
KASSAA Championship game at Queen's University's Richardson
Stadium.
Again this year RND is back at Richardson, but this time in
the Senior Championship afer the Senior Squad broke out of
an early game scoring slump to post several major scores in
the fourth quarter on the way to a convincing semi-final
victory over the underdog group of Q.E.C.V.I. Raiders.
Two plays into the fourth quarter, the Panthers regained
their composure with one finely executed touchdown play.
Quarterback Matt Blommestyn connected with Greg Plumpton for
a 53 yard pass and run with nine minutes left inthe game.
Chris Hasson scored later on the 6 yard pass and Matt Godin
closed out the victory scampering in on the ground for the
final two majors.
Saturday's weather is forecasting a 100% chance of noise in
support of the Panthers. Make plans to be at Richardson on
Saturday for the 1:30 kickoff to one of the true highlights
of the Kingston High School sports season, the crowning of
the KASSAA Senior Football Champion.
Quarter-Final
Squeaker in Overtime 11.04.04
On
the first of alternating possessions during overtime, Jason
Milne scampered in off the right tackle from 15 yards out to
secure a rain-soaked victory. Milne also chipped in the
convert and a single point. Matt Griffin had two of his
punts never leave the K.C. endzone which secured singles for
the Panthers. The rain was a signficant factor but its
importance was exaggerated by RND fumbles and errors. The
Senior now await a semi-final match-up, at home, on Tuesday,
November 9.
Panthers
Capture Catholic Cup in Thrilling Contest
10.30.04
With the minute flag up in the fourth quarter, Jason Milne
took the ball off tackle left and scampered 17 yards for the
winning touchdown as the Panthers captured the Senior side
of the Catholic Cup, 18 - 13. In a game that featured a very
high quality of play from both teams. RND converted a 3rd
down and 7 when Nolan Chesney took the counter left from
Matt Blommstyn, before finishing the six minute drive for
the winning score. The win secured the first seed in the
upcoming KASSAA playoffs for the Panthers. RND's scoring
summary: Jason Milne 2 touchdowns, two coverts, 1 fieldgoal,
Matt Griffin 1point punt into end
zone.
Garnet
Dominates Golden Hawks
10.23.04
RND started strong with three touchdowns in the first
quarter and then carried their momentum right through to the
end of the contest in posting a 61 - 0 victory over Napanee
District Secondary School. The RND Scoring Summary: Jason
Milne 3 touchdowns ,1 FG and 3 converts - Jeremy Burtch 2
touchdowns - Dean Dwyre 1 touchdown , two 2-pt
conversions - Sonny Mercer, 1 touchdown - Drew Conway 1
touchdown - Matt Blommestyn 1 2pt
conversion.
Home Field Win
For the Centennial Bell vs K.C.V.I.
10.08.04
A balanced offensive attack saw three running backs score
touchdowns and together rush for over 300 yards. Jason Milne
scored 2 touchdowns, one fieldgoal, and 5 converts.Total
rushing yards...178 Matt Godin rushed for 165 yards and 2
touchdowns. Adam Downey scored the final touchdown. Behind
strong blocking by the offensive line QB Blommestyn goes 7
out of ten passes to reciever Drew Conway and fullback Dean
Dwyre. The impressive defensive shut-out was lead by the
aggressive play of linebacker Steve Carquez. Three
conversions on third down and steady quarterbacking by Matt
Blommstyn capped an impressive performance over the K.C.
Blues in front of a large home field crowd at
RND.
Panthers Down
the Golden Eagles in the Dark
10.01.04
A
37 yard single by Tim Greyling with two minutes left to play
capped off a second half comeback as RND topped Sydenham 11
- 10. Early in the fourth quarter, QB Matt Blommestyn hooked
up with Flanker, David Hay on a touchdown pass and catch to
knot the score at 10. As darkness descended on the RND field
the Garnet and Gold finally took hold of the field position
advantage in the fourth quarter. Greyling's winning kick was
in large part due to the strong team defence the Panthers
showed all day which included a goal line stand of three
downs inside their own five yard line, mid-way through the
third quarter.
Kick Off
Conquest for the Garnet and Gold
09.22.04
At Frontenac on Wednesday the Senior Panthers renewed a long
rivalry with FSS in a positive manner downing the Falcons 16
- 8. Dave Hay with both a touchdown and two (1 point)
converts helped lead the offensive charge. Dean Dwyre also
cashed in a major score. Steve Carquez scored on a rare
safety giving RND two points and the ball back on offensive
as a key turning point in the contest.
Defensively, James Campbell 's 2 sacks and an interception
by Sonny Mercer were highlights. However a fumble recovery
by Jason Milne to stop a late drive by Frontenac helped to
seal the important road win for the Panthers.
