Shoot-Out Seals
Championship10.26.04
For
the third consecutive year the RND Panthers played for the KASSAA championship.
This year, unlike the previous two, the Panthers were on the road at
Sydenham High School and unlike any recent KASSAA championship the match
was decided by a shoot-out after the teams played to a 1 - 1 tie. the
Panthers, a game over .500 this regular season, upset the previously
unbeaten Golden Eagles.
RND's first shooter, Nikki
Loyst roofed a shot just under the bar and the stellar goaltending of
Whitney Desarmia sealed the championship for the Garnet and Gold. Desarmia
saved her best for last: a blocker stop on Robyn Michelle Leroux's penalty
flick that clinched the Crown for the Panthers. Nikki Loyst, RND's speed
laden forward, also tallied the only goal in regular time. "This was
definitely our best game of the year" said an elated Kate Gillis. Gillis,
at the pivotal center forward position, proved she's one of the leagues
front line players. Time and again she bailed the Panthers out from
a swarming group of Golden Eagles with monstrous hits upfield, intuitive
positioning and blanket coverage on defenders in her territory. At the
end RND captain Gillis and Humaira Ghiacy hoisted the KASSAA and EOSSAA
trophies before being mobbed by the plentiful pack of Panther players.
The KASSAA trophy is the second in three years for the RND field hockey
program.
Congratulations
Panthers !!! -- Good Luck at OFSAA !!
Panthers Qualify
for Championship 10.22.04
For the third consecutive year
the RND Panthers Field Hockey team will play for the KASSAA Championship
and the right to represent Eastern Ontario at the OFSAA Provincial Field
Hockey Championships.
Nikki Loyst scored the winning goal in a 1 - 0 win over the first place
(regular season) Falcons of Frontenac.
RND now awaits the winner of the other, Lasalle vs Sydenham, semi-final.
The KASSAA title game will be played on Wednesday. More details will be
posted soon on the RND Scoreboard.
Congratulations Girls!!!!
Quarter-Final Victory at
Home 10.21.04
A goal with 10 minutes left in the second half broke a 1 - 1 deadlock
and vaulted RND into the KASSAA semi-finals. Smart passes and great postioning
by RND, especially in the second half, was highlighted by goals by Nikki
Loyst and Anne Bouvier. A great save by RND's rookie goalie near the end
of the game solidified the victory.RND now travels to Frontenac
on Thursday for a 3:30 semi-final match-up.
Big Contest in the North
10.21.04
The RND Junior Panthers played their best defensive match of the season
to pull off the straight set victory. By shutting down Sydenham's
big hitters and serving aggressively, the boys controlled the contest
from beginning to end. Dan McBride had another excellent performance
distributing the ball to all five hitters and John Bosica made numerous
defensive saves to keep rallies going. Two matches left before the
real season begins.
Trip Across the Causeway
Unsatisfying 10.14.04
The Top of the KASSAA Field Hockey standing tightened considerably when
the Lasalle Black Knights defeated the RND Panthers on the Lasalle field
this afternoon. Katie Rizzi scored RND's lone goal. The Garnet and Gold
Panthers will now wait to see where they place in the KASSAA regular season
standings and who is their opponent for the KASSAA quarter-final game
on Tuesday of next week.
A Dominating Win Over Loyalist
10.12.04
Laura King, Niki Loyst, Casey Tulk and Rebecca Broeders all scored as
the Panthers dominated from start to finish in a convincing 4 - 0 victory
over L.C.V.I.
A Draw on the Shores of Lake
Sydenham 10.05.04
The Sydenham Golden Eagles are usually one of KASSAA toughest Field Hockey
teams but the young RND Panthers were up to the test on Tuesday in North
Frontenac. Steady goalkeeper on both sides helped to secure a 0 - 0 draw.
Home Winning Streak Continues
09.30.04
On the RND field the Panthers scored very early and then very often in
a 5 - 0 victory over the Bayridge Bengals on the RND field. Casey Tulks
notched two markers and Humaira Ghiacey, Niki Loyst and Kate Gillis each
counted a single goal. RND now looks forward to tournament play in Toronto
during the weekend.
Home Opener Features Win
Over Blues 09.28.04
The first home game of the fall season on the RND Field ended in victory
for the Garnet and Gold as the Panther Field Hockey team defeated the
K.C.V.I. Blues. A supportive RND crowd saw Niki Loyst score early in the
second half. This lone marker held up as the girls evened their KASSAA
record at 1 -1 -1.
Field
Hockey Challenge Comes Early 09.24.04
Often a season must develop and several contests by decided until an obvious
"big game" with a playoff bound opponent can be forecast. That is not
the case as any Holy Cross versus Regiopolis-Notre Dame game is an instant
classic. The Field Hockey rivalry is multiplied as the contest is a rematch
of last years KASSAA Championship game. In addition, the two schools annually
compete for the Cathy Joyce Memorial Trophy, the sign of Field Hockey
supremacy between Kingston's two English Catholic High Schools.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, Holy Cross jumped out to an early lead
they would not relinquish. Laura King tallied late in the second half
to put RND on the board in a 4 - 1 loss to the Crusaders.
Field Hockey Draw
in KASSAA Opener 09.22.04
RND's Kate Gillis opened the scoring for the 2004 season for the Garnet
and Gold at Frontenac. Unfortunately the Falcons countered only a minute
later the knot the score. The teams traded attack until the final whistle
at the Frontenac Field. The Girls next see action at Holy Cross on Thursday
in the annual Cathy Joyce Memorial Game. Get out and support the Field
Hockey team as the look to triumph over our biggest rivals in a rematch
of last years KASSAA Championship game.
