RND has been designatd the second seed in the EOSSAA tournament. The Panthers first game will be at 6:30 versus the St. Joseph's Panthers of Cornwall. Senior Panthers Fly Over the Falcons to the Finals 11.10.11 This afternoon in the CND gym the RND Panthers matched up with the run and gun Falcons of Frontenac for the second time in just two weeks. The tempo was frantic in the games opening minutes as FSS jumped out to a 9 - 6 advantage. RND settled down on both defence and offense to execute effectively and take a healthy 31 - 14 margin into the second half. A furious Frontenac rally narrowed the gap to 11, but again the Panthers used team defence and solid ball movement on offence to retake the momentum and post a 47 - 35 win. The semi-final win qualifies the Panthers for the KASSAA final for the fourth year in a row and a chance to defend their consecutive championships from 2009 and 2010. Quarter-Final Quadrupleheader 11.04.11 Every available Panther marked the scoresheet in a quarter final, 45 - 21 win over Bayridge. Gabby Halle and Cassy Santoni shared duties in the post, Halle with 11 points and Santoni with 7 assists. The Panthers will host a semi-final matchup on Thursday. Check the RND Scoreboard to confirm the time and opponent. It was a tight, well played game on both sides with the point spread opening up in only in the final minutes. Foul shooting was key to holding off a FSS charge as the Panthers hit 6 of 7 from the line in the fourth frame to confirm at 46-28 win. Clare Kenney scored 14 all the the second half and Julia Heroux added 9 more. Regular Season Winding Down on Tuesday 10.24.11 A trafffic slow down on the 401 meant the Panther versus Golden Hawks match started late, but not slowly as RND burst out of the gate scoring 21 points in the first quarter on their way to victory. RND High Scorers were Brittany Almeida with 9 and Emma Lambert with 7. Success on a Soaken Day 10.20.11 RND used a strong post game to dominate inside with Mady McDonald and Clare Kenney combining for 21 points and dominating the boards. As Lasalle SS began to pack in their defence to defend the post the Panthers hit two clutch fourth quarter three pointers by Brittany Almeida and then Julia Heroux to steady the Panthers and preserve the 38-37 win. Busy Tuesday Inside and Outside, Home and Away 10.04.11 Every Panther marked the scoresheet in a convincing win over the Lancers of Loyalist. Gabby Halle and Emily Rowsell were the offensive engines for RND. A Battle With the Golden Eagles 10.27.11 RND and SHS matched up in a rough and tumble affair in front of a vocal crowd at Sydenham. RND fell behind the Golden Eagles to open the contest and SHS lead after the first period 8 - 1. A scrappy, offensively challenged contest saw RND regroup to hold a one point margin at half. RND continued to apply strong defensive pressure holding SHS to only 11 points in the final three quarter. The Panthers got open in the fast break and widen the margin throughout the fourth quarter to secure a hard fought victory against their AAA rival. Univ. of Western - Purple and White Tournament - Results 09.26.11 RND matched up in one of the provinces best attended events as many of Ontario's best teams converged in London for the 32 team Purple and White Tournament. The quality of the event was evident in the very first game as RND faced Eastview of Barrie an AAAA school of 1564 students. The Panther hung tough with the larger group from Barrie until their size began to wear down RND in the fourth quarter on the way to an opening game defeat. An early morning wake-up call for a 8:00 tip-off saw the girls surprisingly eager to for the early contest to brush aside their earlier loss. The opponent was St. Joseph's - Scollard Hall of North Bay on the many court in Alumni Hall at the University of Western Ontario. RND facedanother team considerable taller than the Panthers. However, RND established a pace of play, both on offense and defense that kept the "Bears" off balance throughout. Up by 14 Panther eventually cruised to a 7 point win. At 3:00 on Saturday RND took the court in the Thames gym on the UWO campus versus the St. Thomas Aquinas Cardinals of London. Again facing an AAAA school with over 1375 students the Panthers were underdogs. RND played the role well falling behind early only to bring up the intensity on defense and draw close during the second quarter. Unfortunately RND lost their discipline in the final 57 seconds of the first half offering STA four consecutive turnovers that lead to scores. The wear and tear of very large and talented opponents started to show and RND dropped the contest. One lesson was clear from the weekend, a combination of disciplined execution on offense, aggressive use of the fast break and an tireless approach on defense saw RND compete with some of the best squads in the province. Practice in the coming weeks will ensure that the Panther the girls work to extend this effort throughout an entire game and avoid periods of less focused play.
