The Amazing Wind

Eric Wins!

Yesterday in the triathlon, I won the gold medal! By far, the scariest part of the triathlon was when I nearly crashed on the cycling course. The crash happened in only hairpin in the whole course. Figures. An American slipped right in front of me. I snipped by. It was too good to be true. I found out that my front wheel was bent. Oh well, for the better.

The swimming course was the worst 1.5 km of my life. The race officials had to hand me a life jacket!! Well, I caught up. The real miracle happened on the cycling course.

Well, you pretty much know all the cycling story, or so it seems. On the early part, I was in the second group. Simon Whitfield trailed the first group by a couple of seconds. He figured it out because there was 2 groups!!

On the run I nearly quit, but my gut kicked in. Gale Force winds were blowing at the top of the big hill (notice I'm being sarcastic). The hill was like climbing the tallest mountain in Holland! If you know about Holland, it's tallest mountain is 10 feet high (3 and a quarter meters). I nearly crashed (again) when a fan stepped out on the road. There were no barriers (probably because of the winds) so...

I broke away 2 kilometers from the finish. Simon caught up!! We agreed, this one was for Canada. We sprinted it out. I won!!

In the end, Simon came in 2nd, while the American who crashed early in the race came 3rd.

The War

Hello, my name is Gen. Thomas Harris of Canada. I fought in World War Two as Major of the German Siege Branch 9. Our mission was to confine Germany from invading Belgium, France, Holland, and Luxembourg, all at the same time. The French Army had just become part of the European Allies.

When we planned the first raid on Germany, I lead the troops through Switzerland and thought that the war had ended. It was quiet without the gun fire. I suddenly remembered that Switzerland had stayed neutral during the war so far and when we least expected it, German guns were firing at the army of 15,875 men and 30 tanks of 10 men each. We grabbed our guns and I lead the charge of Army Branches 9, 10 and 11. My best friend Wilfred died in the siege by stepping on a mine.

The day after I sent my wife, Anne, a postcard. I wrote: "The ground is covered in snow from the Swiss Alps.". I later discovered that a spy tracked us down from the Alpine Echo from the tanks.

When we reached Berlin, we had fought 20 sieges, lost 10,000 men, and traveled 900 kilometers from Paris to Berlin. The King of England requested that i receive the Victoria Cross, the highest military British Commonwealth medal. Germany unconditionally surrendered in Berlin while we surrounded the capital building. Soon after, I signed the UN Treaty, which created the United Nations.

Wilfred's gravestone was placed in Ottawa, in front of the Parliament Building by my request. I asked to place my Victoria Cross in his coffin. I now work in the House of Commons and live in Kingston.

A tribute to all the people who had to go through any war, those who died and those who still are alive.

Flanders

Poppies blow,

in Flanders row by row.

Gravestones pile

by the mile.

On these fields soldiers die

Never returning to their wives.

Belgium is where Flanders is

On gravestones there are crosses.

The Amazing Wind

Part 1: The Secret

A Chinook is a cold wind caused by the Jet Stream passing through the Rocky Mountains. This is a story about an unusual Chinook.

One cold winter day, Bruce Cooke, an 11 year old boy from Alberta, became unrealistic. A Chinook was blowing at it's fullest when Bruce went to get the mail. Suddenly, he got swept into the wind!

He came out of the Chinook feeling amazingly strong. He burst through the door at the speed of light! Surprised, he tested his skill at the fair the next day. In the Hammer and Bell Strength Test, he knocked the bell sky high!

Weird allergies plagued Bruce. One of these was an allergy to sugar and salt. And one of his powers was one big time appetite! As he was at the doctor's office when he found out he was allergy-free. Suddenly his mother thought something was happening. And she was ready to find out.

Part 2: The Secret Unveiled

Bruce's superpowers seemed normal. He always was the first student to school. He always ate his whole lunch in nanoseconds. They weren't special anymore. That's why no one really noticed. Except one person... His mother, Rita. She was a Canadian Revenue Service Worker. She was the tax woman of Alberta, checking small amounts of money, making sure she was getting her pay. That why she picked out small details. She questioned Bruce if there was something he was hiding. He replied yes.

He pondered how to explain. He finally pouted that it was his little secret. Rita said she was happy that he hadn't lied.

But soon his power's faded. And when he was old and grey, he got swept into a chinook, setting a new sea of adventures.
