To My Fellow Students,

My name is Michael Murphy, and I am your Student Trustee for the 2011-12 school year.

As Student Trustee, I have attended the Annual General Meeting of the Ontario Student Trustees’ Association. I have participated in the Catholic Board Council meetings, and sit on the Catholic Board Council Executive as the Eastern Ontario Representative. OSTA has many exciting initiatives planned for the upcoming school year, not the least of which is a push for school boards all across Ontario to follow in the footsteps of the ALCDSB in banning bottled water from their facilities. Our Board’s commitment to environmental stewardship is being recognized, and we are becoming a model that other Student Trustees are trying to achieve.

The other half of my role as Student Trustee is to serve as the Chair of Student Senate, a body made up of the elected heads of our Board’s five secondary schools. This promises to be a productive and engaged group of student leaders, and I look forward to working with such a dedicated group of students. I encourage all high school students to talk to the Student Council representatives from their school to find ways to get involved, both in their schools, and in any Senate initiatives.
