The Contribution to Catholic Education Award recognizes an individual, group or organization which has made a significant visible contribution to the school system but particularly to either or both of the staff and students of the system.
This year’s recipients are The Franciscan Friars Conventual of Kingston.
The Friars both past and present have gone above and beyond their vocation of pastoral ministry in supporting the communities of St. Patrick, St. Peter, Holy Family, and Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic Schools.
Examples of their voluntary work include supporting students and staff through the RCIA/RCIC programs, supporting families in need, providing professional development to staff on PA Days, involvement in the Nativity Project, accompanying students to Providence Manor, providing altar server training for students, and involvement in the transition process to the new St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School. They have supported academic achievement through regular participation in religious education classes at Regiopolis-Notre Dame CHS and class visits at the elementary level, most recently to help the students learn more about St. Francis of Assisi.
The long-service of the Friars in Kingston has been interwoven with the rich history of these four schools, and we are assured that this will continue with the opening of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School in the fall.
