Celebrating Family Literacy Day

January 27, 2016

Students sitting in front of sign for the Book ExchangeSt. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School celebrated Family LiteracyLiteracy Day Collage Day by hosting its annual Book Exchange along with inviting many community members into the school to share their favourite books/readings with staff and students.

Throughout the previous week, students brought in books from home that they no longer read in order to exchange them at school for new books.  All of the students were able to go home with a few new books to enjoy.  In addition to the Book Exchange, the school hosted several guests from the community to share their favourite readings/books with students as well as discuss the importance of literacy in their daily lives.  Some of their esteemed guests included:  Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson and Mrs Paterson; school resource officer, Kelly Reshnyk; Parish priest Fr. Leo Byrne and many others. Students also enjoyed some French readings with Ms. Kristy Brezina.

It was truly inspiring to experience all of the excitement and joy that went into the day.  Special thanks to their dedicated parent volunteers, Mrs. Rand and Mrs. LaDuca for helping them with the Book Exchange throughout the day, and to Mrs. Ows for coordinating the activities.
