Motivational Speaker Inspires St. Theresa Catholic Secondary students

December 04, 2015

Alvin Law playing the drumsA motivational speaker that was born with no arms presented to St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School on December 2.

Alvin Law, from Calgary, Alberta has traveled around the world, speaking to groups about his background, challenges, and accomplishments.

While Law said he does more corporate speeches now, he said he always enjoys coming to schools to speak because of the student's energy.

"When I speak to adults, they listen politely. With students, it's a challenge to keep their attention."

But Law did just that by telling stories of his childhood, addressing questions he is asked frequently about not having arms, and sharing his life's accomplishments.

"The biggest thing I overcame wasn't not having any arms, it was being a teenager" Law said during his speech to students.

Law said he is happy to be a part of the change in the world of seeing people with disabilities not as discouraging, but in an encouraging way.

Law spoke to St. Theresa Catholic students as part of their Wellness Week. The week of Nov.30-Dec 4. St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School celebrates Wellness Matters with special guests and community partners. Wellness Matters Week aims to support students in their understanding of the importance of seeking intellectual, personal, emotional, and spiritual balance in their life in order to maintain wellness.
