Canadian Cross Country Champion Chris Winter skyped with the St. Michael Catholic School cross country teams, and shared training techniques and advice. Both Alex and Chris kept in touch with the teams via Twitter since April, offering up words of advice and encouragement as the students continued training. During the summer, Alex won silver in the 3000 meter Steeplechase at the Pan Am Games. Teachers Monsieur and Madame Hartnell attended the race to support Alex and kept in touch with him. On Tuesday, November 10th, Alex came to the school and meet with the 63 students he skyped with last April. Alex presented a slideshow which explained how he became an Olympic athlete, how he trained, his ups and downs and some of his future plans. He showed the students his silver medal, and autographed a photo for each student. Then Alex took the students through some drills so that he used when he started training as a runner. Fun was had by everyone.
