On August 9 the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board Of Trustees accepted, with regret, the notice of retirement from Jody DiRocco, Director of Education, effective January 31, 2019.
"It has been a privilege to serve the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School board as Director of Education," said DiRocco. "I have witnessed so many successes and accomplishments in our schools and across our Catholic school system of which we should be very proud."
Jody has served as the Director of Education for the past eight years and has been with the Catholic school system for 34 years.
"Being a witness to strong leadership, the diversity of talent and the commitment of those who work directly with students and those who work in the many important support roles has always been a highlight for me. Every day, in my role as Director of Education I have enjoyed the experience of learning with and learning from our amazing Algonquin and Lakeshore staff."
Jody began his career in education in 1984 teaching chemistry at Nicholson Catholic College (Belleville) and before moving into the elementary panel in 1995, he took on the role of Special Assignment Teacher for Transitions Years and Integrated Technology. He taught elementary grades at St. Michael Catholic School (Belleville) and St. Peter Catholic School (Trenton).
In 1995, Jody moved to the role of school administrator in the role of vice-principal and principal for the next twelve years. He held these positions at St. Peter (Trenton), St. Michael (Belleville), Sacred Heart (Batawa), St. Thomas More (Kingston), St. Joseph/St. Mary (Kingston) and St. Martha (Kingston) Catholic Schools.
In 2007, Jody transitioned to the Board Office in Napanee into the role of Principal of School Effectiveness, School Effectiveness Lead and in 2008 was appointed Superintendent of School Effectiveness. In April 2011, Jody accepted the position of Director of Education.
Throughout his career, Jody has been a member of various committees and organizations provincially and within the community. Most recently, he served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the United Way KFLA.
In addition to a list of various professional development qualifications, Jody has a Bachelor of Science (University of Waterloo), Bachelor of Education (Queen's University) and a Master of Education (Queen's University).
"On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to wish Director DiRocco all the best in retirement," said John Brisbois, Chair of the Board of Trustees. "It has been a pleasure to watch our Catholic school system flourish under the leadership of Jody. Our Board looks forward to building upon these successes in coming years."
