A group of Grade 7/8 students at Holy Name Catholic School demonstrated their learning of Advent and the Nativity using technology, coding, and visual art. They created an interactive Nativity with a Makey Makey and simple computer programming using Scratch, a coding website. Students made buttons for the Nativity, which are programmed to provide audio of scripture from the Gospels of Matthew, Luke, and John. "It was a team effort that included students constructing the scene with low tech materials but also required students to find scripture related to the Nativity and the arrival of Jesus. Lastly, other students had to program the Makey Makey to make the Nativity interactive with audio. It was a team effort," said Anthony Kilpatrick, a Grade 8 student. Dominique Fisler, a Grade 7 student, said, "It was fun creating a Nativity that involves the use of technology. We hope that our school community can enjoy it at our Advent Celebration."
