Poetry Contest

April 02, 2023
April is National Poetry Month and once again the English Department is sponsoring its Poetry Contest, now in its 21st year. This year's judge is Kingston's newly-minted poet laureate, Sadiqa de Meijer whose debut collection, Leaving Howe Island, was a nominee for the Governor General's Award for English-language poetry in 2014; and her poem, "Great Aunt Unmarried", won the CBC's Canada Writes award for poetry in 2012. Once again, cash prizes will be awarded in both Junior and Senior Divisions. All students are encouraged to submit their poetry entries, a maximum of three entries. Students need to email their submissions to any English teacher with the subject line: POETRY CONTEST 2023 + NAME + GRADE. All poems will be judged “blind”, so no names should appear on the poem submission, only in the email subject line. Deadline for submission is April 28th. Good luck!
