To the students, staff and parents of the RND Community:
The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board always holds the safety and well-being of our students and staff as our primary concern. For this reason, I am writing to you today to make you aware of an event that occurred today.
Around 9:40 a.m. this morning, Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School went into lockdown, following procedures of Caring and Safe Catholic Schools. Kingston Police were notified and on site after a threat was made to the school over the phone.
Around 10:50 a.m. Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School moved into a hold and secure. Students remained in the classroom, while Kingston Police conducted further investigation into the source of the threat.
The threat to the school was taken seriously and all safety precautions were made to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The hold and secure remained in effect until the end of the school day. Once police had determined the school to be safe, we did allow students movement within the building.
Both ALCDSB and Limestone have cancelled all afternoon and evening events for tonight. Our play Into the Woods is therefore cancelled. If you have tickets for tonight’s show, please call the Main Office (613 545-1902) in the morning to make other arrangements.
I want to thank all of our community for their support today as we worked together to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff.
