OLMC is celebration National Sweater Day 2020 on February 6th!

January 30, 2020
Our planet is getting hotter. Your school can help turn down the heat on National Sweater Day. World wildlife populations have dropped by nearly 60 per cent in the last 40 years, and climate change is making it worse. Rising global temperatures are pushing one in six species closer to extinction as they struggle to adapt to altering habitats, new predators, extreme weather and changing food availability. Take for example Canada’s Arctic which is warming at twice the average global rate, causing sea ice – the foundation of life for species such as polar bears and narwhal – to melt. Since 2010, more than a million Canadians have shown their support for limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius by turning down their thermostats by the same amount (or more) and wearing their favourite sweaters to stay warm. National Sweater Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about climate change and energy conservation, and show how together – classroom by classroom, school by school – we can be a part of the solution. Make an impact beyond National Sweater Day by asking students to reflect on their personal carbon footprint and make personal commitments in their own lives to help keep climate change in check. Collectively, we can have a powerful impact.
