ALCDSB Receives Funding for New School

October 29, 2020

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is pleased to share that the Ministry of Education has approved funding to support the re-build of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Amherstview.

The Board has been approved for a $12.1 million build, which will mean a new school on the current Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School site. This new build will include space for 449 students and include three new child care rooms, enabling day care for 49 children.

“Our Board is very excited by the news of this capital funding opportunity," said David DeSantis, Director of Education. “This new build will provide exciting learning opportunities for our staff and students.  We look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure that their voice is represented in the development of a Catholic learning community that will be one of our largest elementary schools. "

More information on this new build will be shared with students, staff and community members as it becomes available.

Kingston West Elementary School in the Woodhaven subdivision

In addition to the new build at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School, ALCDSB is still in the process of a new build in Kingston's Woodhaven subdivision. This brand new build, not currently on a school site, will help to alleviate enrollment pressures at other French Immersion sites. This project was announced in January 2018.

This brand new build will be a French Immersion and English dual track elementary school, including space for 481 students. This project includes Child Care and Early ON spaces. Extensive public design consultations were conducted during the 2018/2019 school year.

“French Immersion is something that our community has identified as important to them, so we are excited to be building two new elementary schools, offering French Immersion," said DeSantis. “These two large elementary schools will provide so many opportunities, not only in French Immersion, but other program areas that will allow us to continue to provide excellence in Catholic education to our communities in Kingston, Loyalist Township and surrounding areas."
