This year, the first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Kindergarten students may have a staggered start to the first week of school and begin classes on a different date. Schools will contact families directly to confirm start dates.

On behalf of our Board of Trustees and the senior leadership team I want to wish everyone a warm welcome back.

We are pleased to announce that our team created a learning plan that focusses on the transition to school, student mental health and community building in our faith-filled classrooms. The plan is called Understanding Our Learners and reflects the strong relationships that teachers and students form while learning together. It also incorporates the 2022-2023 Board Pastoral Theme: Formed in the Faith. This is our commitment to support the learning, and wholistic development of our students.

Formed in the Faith ​

This year marks the third of five pastoral themes, “Formed in the Faith", which calls us to nurture our relationship with God as we continue along our faith journey. God invites us to enter into relationship with Him, and growing in faith is our response to this relationship. Faith formation is an important part of our lives as lifelong learners who are members of a faith-filled community. It is important to recognize that each individual is on their own faith journey, therefore, we must provide faith formation opportunities that meet the needs of all members of our community. Faith formation includes religious and family life education curricula and programming, liturgical celebrations and celebration of the Eucharist, faith days, and extracurricular and experiential opportunities. All faith formation opportunities are intended to bring us closer to God and to help us live a Christ-centred life.

While we are pleased to announce that all of our Catholic school communities will return to a normal school year, there is still a responsibility for the Board to be attentive and responsive to the health and safety of our students, staff, and families.

During this transition, the Board will continue working closely with our local public health units to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our Catholic schools.

To keep families informed on what they can expect when they send their students back to school next week, we've outlined a detailed plan below.

Daily Screening

We will continue to encourage our staff, students and visitors to self-screen every day before attending/entering any of our Catholic learning communities and plan to stay home (or keep your child home) if sick. The Government of Ontario's online screening tool for school aged children and childcare is available here.

Any staff, student or visitor experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool must not attend school and should follow the guidance provided in the screening tool. Additional guidance is available at Ontario.ca/exposed.

Masking

Staff, students, and visitors will have the option to wear a mask, though masking is not required.

Isolation Requirements 

Asymptomatic individuals who are fully immunized are not required to isolate if they are identified as a high-risk close contact of an individual who is symptomatic or who tests positive for COVID-19, unless otherwise directed by their local public health unit.
Testing

Rapid antigen tests are available to students upon request. Please inquire with your school secretary.

Hygiene Practices

We trust parents and guardians will continue to reinforce appropriate hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.

Regular handwashing and reminders to cover one's mouth and nose with a tissue or arm sleeve when coughing or sneezing will continue to be promoted and integrated by staff and teachers throughout the school day.

Cleaning and Ventilation Systems​

All enhanced cleaning standards will continue. Ventilation and filtration systems will continue to be used in all sites.

Transportation

Did you know if you're at the bus stop at least 5 mins early, you're less likely to miss the bus? Remember: you wait for the bus because the bus cannot wait for you.
