I am writing to you today to provide an update with regards to the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) job action. OECTA has announced that they would be taking part in a one-day full withdrawal of services on Friday, February 21, 2020. In addition, OECTA will begin rotating full withdrawals of services during the week of February 24, 2020. This rotating strike will affect all schools within the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board on Thursday, February 27, 2020. Due to these full withdrawal of services, all ALCDSB schools will be closed to students on Friday, February 21, 2020 and Thursday, February 27, 2020 if an agreement is not reached prior to these dates. In addition, the enhanced administrative job action by OECTA members will continue. This means that OECTA members will only undertake their scheduled teaching and supervision duties. They will not accept additional tasks or assignments. Teachers will continue to provide extra-curricular activities. The declaration of and continuation of this job action is a result of central (provincial level) negotiations and decisions that will be made at that level. At ALCDSB, we do not control the decisions regarding job action. We are uncertain of the possibility and duration of this job action. ALCDSB will continue to monitor this job action closely and provide parents/guardians with updates through the board website, www.alcdsb.on.ca and through school websites and social media.
