Hot Docs Film Festival in Sharbot Lake

April 11, 2019

Hot Docs, North America’s largest documentary festival, offers an outstanding selection of over 200 films from Canada and around the world to Toronto audiences of more than 200,000. Hot Docs Film Festival offers free in-school and in-cinema screenings for grade 7 to 12 teachers and their students throughout the school year. This year, we have brought the festival to St. James Major Catholic School for students in Grades 6-8.

The documentary films offered engage students with issues of our day, offering vital ideas, critical questions and new perspectives outside of mainstream media and textbooks. Teacher prepared education packages with valuable background information, creative lesson plans and links to curriculum are provided for each film. Students will have opportunities to discuss issues and topics, watch each film, and complete assignments that develop critical thinking skills, bring the world into the classroom, and provide opportunities to develop knowledge and skills to learn about and solve real world problems.
