New Program - Secondary School High Skills Major in the Environment

December 01, 2016
SHSM1.jpgIs your Crusader interested in the outdoors? Are they mindful of the need to be ‘green’? Do they like to work with their hands? It is with a great deal of excitement that Holy Cross has begun the process of applying to the Ministry of Education to create a Secondary School High Skills Major in the Environment. Led by Mr. Hunter, the school team looks forward to identifying and contacting students who would be interest-ed in getting various certifications such as Below Zero, GPS, Hike Ontario, water and ice safety as well as CPR/AED, First Aid, and Hazardous Materials training. SHSM Environment students will also be invited to participate in various reach ahead and ex-periential learning activities.

These reach ahead and experiential learning activities include sector-related field trips (like the Toronto Sports-men’s Show) workplace visits (like area green energy projects), and college and university program visits. Stu-dents must complete a sector-related cooperative education placement and take designated courses linked to the environment and upon graduation, they will receive the coveted ‘Red Seal’ Ontario High School Diploma. It is an exciting opportunity for Holy Cross students, starting in 2017-2018. If you are interested, contact the school for more information and watch the newsletter for updates. PENDING MINISTRY APPROVAL!
