ALCDSB Catholic Education Week Award Recipients

CEW-Logo-2022.jpgNapanee, ON – Each year during Catholic Education Week, the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) recognizes the exemplary accomplishments of students, staff and community members who consistently demonstrate outstanding service.

ALCDSB Catholic Education Week 2022 Award Recipients:

Archbishop Francis J. Spence Catholic Teacher of the Year Award
Tabitha Lollar, Grade 4 Teacher
St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School, Kingston.

About the Recipient: Tabitha Lollar is a caring, compassionate and dedicated educator who makes a concerted effort to instill values of giving and caring for others. Tabitha was selected for the Archbishop Francis J. Spence Catholic Teacher of the Year Award for her servant leadership of social justice initiatives in support of those in need in both local and global communities. Tabitha has become intrinsic to the school's Catholic character she has organized many school Masses and parish videos over the years. Tabitha's students describe her as someone who ensures that they are loved and supported, and who instills a feeling of belonging. 

About the Award: The late Archbishop Spence chose to honour all teachers in the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board by specifically recognizing one teacher during Catholic Education Week with the Archbishop Francis J. Spence Catholic Teacher of the Year Award. This award recognizes a teacher who exemplifies the spirit of the ALCDSB Mission Statement, meritorious service, and commitment to Catholic education and to the teachings of the Catholic Church.  We honour the legacy of Archbishop Spence by presenting this award, which bears his name. 

 

Excellence In Supporting Catholic Education: CUPE, Support Staff and Senior Managers
Chris Switzer, Caretaker
St. John XXIII Catholic School, Kingston.​

About the Recipient: Chris Switzer instils the values of faith with the ALCDSB staff and student community through all of his interactions in the building, always with a smile. Chris follows and preaches the Golden Rule, and ensures everyone treats one another with kindness and respect. Chris supports all of the initiatives within the school community, going above and beyond to ensure that they run smoothly. He is truly a “care-taker", caring for both the building and the people in it! ​

About the Award: The Excellence in Supporting Catholic Education Award – CUPE, Support Staff Association and Senior Managers recognizes an individual who demonstrates excellence in the workplace while supporting faith-based education; community service, social justice initiatives; involvement in workplace and/or community life and personal accomplishment.

 

Contribution to Catholic Education Award
Deb Myers, Educational Assistant
Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School, Kingston

About the Recipient: Deb Myers is a faithful person who lives her faith out every day in the Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School community. Deb brings joy with her to work and shares her consistent positive outlook with all around her. Deb ensures that all of our students are viewed as God's children by living out Catholic Social Teaching and the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations, being a faith witness to both students and staff.

About the Award: The Contribution to Catholic Education Award is meant to recognize an individual, group or organization which has made a significant visible contribution to the school system but particularly to either or both of the staff and students of the system.


The Katharine Award 
Colleen Murphy, Volunteer
Holy Rosary Catholic School, Belleville

About the Recipient: Colleen Murphy has consistently supported families through the Holy Rosary Catholic School food blessings program. Colleen and her family do this not for recognition, but strictly based on Christian values. Colleen understands the value of living a Christ-centered life and that equity and well-being are the keys to student success.

About the Award: The Katharine Award honours an individual, group or school whose charitable efforts honour the spirit of giving of the late Katharine Splinter and are consistent with the character of the system as expressed in its mission statement.


Adult Volunteer Award
Char Conroy, Volunteer
St. Mary Catholic School, Trenton ​

About the Recipient: Char Conroy goes above and beyond in all ways when it comes to helping the St. Mary Catholic School community. Char has volunteered countless hours of her own time to ensure the students and staff of St. Mary Catholic School never go without. Char is an integral member of the school family who is present every day and is often known to be the first person to arrive and the last to depart when volunteering at school events. Her motto is definitely “I do it for the kids."

About the Award: The Adult Volunteer Award recognizes exemplary volunteer services to the benefit of staff and students. 


Secondary Student Volunteer Award
Tristin Tsokos, Grade 12
St. Paul Catholic Secondary School, Trenton​

About the Recipient: Tristin Tsokos is a quiet, positive leader in the St. Paul Catholic Secondary School community and rarely draws attention or recognition to himself. Tristin donates so much of his time for the greater good of others. He is an active member of his faith community and was, for a number of years, a member of the Columbian Squires youth group in Trenton. Additionally, Tristin has been a server at his parish and school Masses. He is a kind, respectful, hard- working, dedicated young man who possesses a genuine empathy for others who benefit from his service activities.

About the Award: The Secondary Student Volunteer of the Year Awards recognize an individual who has provided exemplary services to a school, to the benefit of the students and staff of that site.


Elementary Student Volunteer Award
Maddy Castro, Grade 6
St. Thomas More Catholic School, Kingston

About the Recipient: Maddy Castro gives back to her school community in any way she can; she is a leader with the Social Justice team, works the students in the Life Skills Centre, helps with the Food Sharing Program, serves as a lunch buddy, as a lunch time supervisor, and is a member of the running team. Maddy pushes the adults to make things happen in the school community, who benefit from her love, compassion, and inclusion. Maddy is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kingston where she is an altar server and where she participates in the annual Christmas pageant and in junior liturgy.

About the Award: The Elementary Student Volunteer of the Year Awards recognize an individual who has provided exemplary services to a school, to the benefit of the students and staff of that site.
