September School Mass
On Thursday, September 12th the Holy Cross community gathered to celebrate our first school Mass of the year. Father Tim Shea presented the homily and sermon. Father Sebastian Amato officiated at the Mass and prepared the Eucharist. The Holy Cross student choir and band provided a lovely accompaniment to the liturgy. A Holy Cross tradition, simple wooden cross’ were blessed and distributed to grade 9 students to welcome them into the Holy Cross community. Upon graduation grade 12 students receive a silver cross. Student attendance, participation and respect was exemplary, well done Crusaders! “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
December Fundraising Activities
This year's Advent Campaign will run from November 28 (Monday of the first week of Advent) until December 16 (the day after our Advent School Mass). After speaking with students and with staff, Holy Cross will support two charities. First, senior grades will support the
Hurricane Matthew Relief Efforts in Haiti. The need is great there, and our school has been asked to contribute as have schools and parishes across Canada. Money will be collected in senior homeroom classes and then sent c/o Development & Peace to Haiti. Junior Grades will collect food items for local families in need. This will be done through the
Salvation Army's Christmas Hamper Campaign. This is a great charity and it is local. The Salvation Army are ready to work with us on this.
To the left you will see Emily Crockford and Liam Silverson who completed a Napanee to Holy Cross walk in support of the Jamaican Mission Trip on Saturday, November 19th. They raised over $700 for this worthy cause and wish to thank all those who supported their walk. This is Emily’s second year doing this fundraiser—and she has the blisters to prove it!
And finally this month, Holy Cross organized a mission trip to Toronto where students prepared and served meals to the less fortunate who often find themselves on the street. Special thanks to our student volunteers and to Ms. Hoey and Ms. Cancian, Child and Youth Workers, who accompanied the students on this life-changing experience.
May the peace and joy of God be with you this Advent Season.
Mr. Chris Forster, Chaplaincy Leader
