The Come Alive Outside Design Challenge creates the opportunity for teams of post-secondary, secondary and primary students to work together with Wentworth landscapers to design and build a place at schools that provide young people with frequent access to nature in urban areas.
On October 24th - 26th of this year, Landscape Architecture and Horticulture post secondary students from various schools in Ontario will travel to Kingston to participate in a collaborative design event with secondary students and students and teachers from AOS!
During this time, the team will work together to create initial concepts for designs for a new outdoor learning environment that will meet the following criteria:
- encourages the engagement of all five senses
-integrates the creative input of the students and teachers who will use it
-creates appropriate habitat for wildlife
-effectively manages and utilizes rainwater
These initial concepts will be then be presented to the school community for input and feedback, and then the proposals will be voted on by the community and judged by a panel of professionals.
Construction on the winning design will take place in the spring and summer of 2020
Come Alive Outside is a nonprofit organization and the Design Challenge Program has been produced with students in over 20 communities across Canada and the United States in the last 5 years.
