Catholic Education Week, May 2017

April 18, 2017

Catholic Education Week logoDuring the week of April 30 to May 5, 2017 the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board will celebrate the significant contribution that Catholic Education has made in our communities. Our Catholic Graduate Expectations challenge students to articulate in society the fundamental values that underpin Catholic education.

The theme for this year's Catholic Education Week is Catholic Education: Walking Forward Together

The 2017 CEW theme and its five sub-themes are drawn from three contemporary Catholic documents that address the need for reconciliation and renewal – in our lives, with our families, in our relationships with others and in our relationship with our environment and our common global future.

There are five sub-themes, one for each day of Catholic Education Week and they are aimed at helping staff and students to reflect more fully on what Walking Forward Together asks of them.

The five sub-themes are:

Day 1:                    Walking Forward Together with God  /  Aller de l'avant avec Dieu

Day 2:                    Walking Forward Together with Our Families  /  Aller de l'avant avec nos familles

Day 3:                    Walking Forward Together with Others  /  Aller de l'avant avec les autres

Day 4:                    Walking Forward Together with Creation  /  Aller de l'avant avec la Création

Day 5:                    Walking Forward Together in Hope  /  Aller de l'avant dans l'espérance

Catholic Education Week is marked by special activities at all grade levels, including prayer celebrations and service activities.

Board wide Mass will take place on Tuesday, May 2 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Belleville.

Message from Most Rev. Brendan O'Brien, Archbishop of Kingston:

  • Discipleship

We accept the call to be imitators of Christ by embracing the Beatitudes through authentic witness at the school, community, and global levels. Rooted in our commitment to transmit our Faith and Catholic tradition, we are inspired to build communities dedicated to the formation of young people who recognize their gifts and responsibilities to contribute to the transformation of the world into a more just and loving society for all.

  • Scholarship

We believe that each student, made in the image and likeness of God and being hope for the future, can be engaged in their learning and achieve at high levels with appropriate supports. We are committed to ensuring that the potential of each student is realized through the achievement of ambitious outcomes and improving in their learning to the highest possible level.

  • Stewardship

We embrace our responsibilities for the prudent and judicious use of the resources we have been allocated. In our context, we are committed to the development and growth of all employees, responsible and accountable practices and our call to care for all of God's creation.
